I think it does have the auto rotation. I saw a quick hands on video and the person turns the Paperwhite Signature upside down and the screen flashes. It was very fast and the text was blurry but I think this was demonstrating the screen flip.

If I recall, the text will flip when you rotate the thing 180, but the button mappings stay the same (whereas with the Oasis, they also flip).

For those interested in the Kids Kids versions, note that Amazon changed the warranty.
Older Models: "Includes a 2-year worry-free guarantee. If it breaks, return it and we'll replace it for free." Newest Models: "1-year limited warranty" and that means if your kid breaks it, it's not covered. To get that 2-year coverage back ("covers drops, spills, and cracked screens from day one"), you'll have to buy a separate protection plan that will cost you an additional $23 to $37 depending on the model. That's mighty generous of Amazon, ain't it?

An extra issue with putting the buttons on the case is that it’s quite likely that the case (especially as it’s not made of leather) will start fraying and breaking apart years before the Kindle itself.
So then you’ll end up with needing to get a new case, which may not be available any more or if it is, will cost another 85 € just to keep using buttons .. which would not be an issue if the buttons were part of the e-reader. (Amazon’s cases used to be pretty good quality, admittedly, and mine are still in good shape. But I’ve seen a fair number of complaints online about the ones for more recent Kindles - looking quite dilapidated after a year or two already, especially when people carry their Kindles with them in a bag or purse and, well, use them.) |

In theory, I think the case with buttons is a clever way to offer buttons to those that want them, although the price is a bit steep.
However, I'm massively put off that although you can rotate the device so the buttons are on the left (I hold my Kindle with my left hand so I can use my right hand to hold my coffee) that puts the "chin" of the Kindle at the top which gives me the heebie-jeebies. I guess I'll stick with my Oasis 3 until it breaks. |

So much for thinner and lighter. I calculated the non aluminium basic kindle with its matching case at 250gms. My 2024 basic, which was almost half the price of the new one, in its third party case weighs 248gms. No point in me upgrading for something lighter to carry.

A cover that included an additional 7" screen A cover that included an addition 7" screen with buttons So Kobo would give you multiple ways to add a 7" screen. Do you think Kobo 7" lovers should be very happy?

He may be being sarcastic. Regardless, it is fascinating that Amazon is trying to have their cake and eat it too. They're acknowledging the people who want physical buttons, but aren't willing to compromise their current shape design to do it, and they're charging people more for the inelegant solution. I applaud them. 😆

The buttons seem a good idea to me. A cover is something every Reader should have on it. So why not have buttons. That means that those who don't want buttons and have the Kindle with no buttons. And those that do can have the buttons.

Not everyone uses a cover. I don't, because it makes a device harder to hold for me and is an additional cost I don't need or want. Buttons belong on the device, not on its accessory.

As much as the buttons on the cover look nice and I would like them I don’t think I am prepared to pay £75 for that cover. Even £45 for the non button cover is twice what I normally pay. I’ve pre ordered the Bluetooth click turner and that will do. I don’t have an issue with the touch screen for turning pages when I am in bed.
