Unhappy KOBO AURA HD DOESN'T START

Hello everybody,
hope you can help me to resuscitate this beauty (but annoying) device;
The reader is on switch off mode. Means, black screen, switch off written at the left bottom corner;
Apparently there is no way to make it start. I tried the factory reset, but no way to make it work; No error messages; just decided to do not start anymore; I have decided to disassembly it; All seems ok inside; the adhesive of the battery doesn't hold anymore but that's not an issue;
I read it may be an issue with the IMAGE of the internal 4gb SD card..
I am quite desperate because to buy a new one want to make sure to try all possible best to recover it;
Hope you can help me;
PS I am new here, so I apologies if the thread I opened is not correctly allocated.
Many thanks in advance to all of you

You might check for some things. Does the led work when you try to power on or to t factory reset? If not, the battery might be empty, or the button might be broken, or the electrical circuit might be interrupted in another way. Some people had to disconnect and reconnect the battery to make the device work again. By the way, are you sure that the device is powered off? Press the power button and hold it for 20 secs or longer, and then try to power the device on.
If the led does light, the screen might be broken, or the cables might not be in place, or there might be some other hardware problem.
And sure, the internal sd can be broken.

Hi tshering,
Thanks for the kind feedback. Yes the led is working. During the factory reset and during the charge. The reader screen still remain on switch-off position (black with the wording "switched off" on the left low corner). I do not know if these may be the symthom of the SD card image damaged.... but it seems the only trial option remained.. guess if somebody could provide a copy of it.

I have sent you a link for the image. But, you say you tried a factory reset. Did you ensure the device was powered off when you did this?

See Memory Upgrade Mod Guide. Those are instructions for the Glo, but the steps and tool are the same.

Hi David,
no way;; did all necessary steps. I have loaded the image on another micro sd card; No signs... the device always remain on same powered off (in Italian is spento, in English means "switched off"). I wish to try to disconnect the battery cables to reconnect it again to see if it works.. but they seems welded to the mother board..
I uploaded some pictures, not sure you can access it. Please let me know, if you can;
Many thanks again for your support!

The battery cable isn't soldered on. That connector can be taken out. From memory, you tilt it up from the cable end. But, hopefully someone will come along that uses these types of connectors more than me and tell us if I am right or wrong.

The screen is what I expected from the description. There is no obvious damage, so apart from making sure the screen connector is plugged in properly, it should do something. There is also an LED near the switch. What happens with it when you turn the device on? Or plug it into a PC/USB charger?

The led works, it seems that the process is working alright, but the screen doesn't follow it.. I mean, the led is blinking as normal. Flashing for 4/5 seconds during the switch on, then goes off. The screen remain always like you saw in the picture..
Despite I think KOBO are the best ereaders, I am a bit reluctant to purchase a new one (the ONE) as I am afraid it may start to have problems after one year.. like this one..

Which could well happen. Or maybe it'll happen 5 minutes after you start using it for the 1st time. But either of these scenarios are equally likely to happen with ANY device you buy. Reports of breakdowns of the kind you have had are fortunately extremely rare with Kobo's.

I have had the same problem as well.
It turned out that the micro SD card that had came with the device was damaged. Restoring the system image into the new micro SD card has resurrected my Kobo Aura HD.
