- Launched USBDeview, deleted all "Kobo..." entries
- Connected my Kobo Glo via USB cable.
- The Kobo Glo seems to detect computer and says CANCEL or CONNECT. Tapped CONNECT. Kobo Glo says something like COMPUTER CONNECTED AND CHARGING.
- USBDeview doesn't show new driver installed.
- Tried with 2 different USB cables with same result.
- Tried with another Kobo Glo HD and Kobo Aura and both could connect successfully - Windows 7 could see the Aura and Glo HD and I could side load books on them.
- Did factory reset on Kobo Glo, but still cannot be recognised by PC Windows 7.
- Updated firmware to 4.x with same failed results.
- Funny thing is the Glo says COMPUTER CONNECTED, but nothing on Windows.

- Other than that, my Glo works fine -- I can read all the books that have been loaded.
- I know I can use Calibre to load books wirelessly, but then I can't load books wirelessly via Adobe Digital Editions when I borrow from the library...(
the diagnosis which fits all reported symptoms is a hardware ( pin) failure in that specific kobo's connecting port - one of the data transmission pins is not connecting properly. The fact that other Kobo devices work seems to rule out the PC as the cause, and tests with other cables rule out a cable fault.
Windows cannot assign a driver as it is not getting the needed device ID from the Kobo, only the charging pins are well connected.. other reports across so many different windows versions and kobo devices also make a software bug look extremely unlikely.

technically, as a work-around, the DeDrm "tools" work on library loans - morally ( assuming you read then delete , do not keep) it's your call though even saying it may get my post deleted. If you treat the processed book as a copy across, read-then-delete loan, I don't see any great crime

Why not go to a store that sells computers. Bring your Kobo Glo and cable(s) and see if you can plug it in and get it recognized.

'll try the library tomorrow - but I've tried with another Windows machine today and there's no improvement.

I think the pin failure is the most likely diagnosis, unfortunately. I'm wondering whether one of our local shops which offers phone and table repairs could do anything...

Thanks for your support, all!

Problem: Had the same problem. Plugged Kobo Glo into Windows computer, the device showed "Computer detected" and I click "Connect". Then, even after showing "Connected and charging", it would not show on my computer.

Solution:
  1. Make sure you are using a data-transfer USB cable, not a charging-only cable (they look the same and plug into the same ports)
  2. If you are using Windows, use a USB adapter/dongle or USB hub (Mac seems to connect without it)
  3. You may need to use the Adobe Digital Editions software to authorize/activate your device
  4. You may need to use the Kobo app to authorize/activate your device
  5. Ensure your cable works with other devices to transfer data between your computer and device

Points 3 and 4 require that the Kobo is already seen as a storage device before they can work.
