kobo glo unrecognized windows vista PC

Hi, I'm having a problem with my brand new KOBO GLO. I opened it and tried to set it up wirelessly. that part went smoothly... but when i needed to plug it on to my computer, my pc cannot recognize the device. i've tried restarting my PC and also tried using different usb cable. it still won't work. i also tried it on my laptop and it still wouldn't work. What the heck is wrong? help please!

I had similar trouble as well with my Aura. I found that turning off the Aura, then connecting it to my computer worked.

Try plugging it into a different USB port. After that unrecognized error, the device remains as a unknown device when plugged into that USB port.

You can try adding the 3 lines below to a batch file and then running the file as administrator. After the device manager opens, click on view and then show hidden devices. Under the USB section, right click on the unknown device and select uninstall.

Code:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
cd\windows\System32
start devmgmt.msc
An alternative is to look for NirSoft's USBDeview utility which will show you the devices connected and unconnected and let you select multiple devices and uninstall them.

Good luck!
David

Hi david!
I already tried plugging it into different ports and when i did, the pop up error "usb device not recognized" didn't show up anymore... But than i still couldn't find my kobo glow anywhere on the pc... Regaring adding the lines to a batch file, what is that? How do i do that? I'm sorry, i'm not that familiar when it comes to codes. Thank you so much!

That might mean your drive letter is not set correctly and a current drive or device has that particular device letter reserved. So you have to go to disk management tools to set the drive letter. Once you select a drive letter that is not reserved or in use you should be good to go immediately. You must do this with the kobo attached to be able to manipulate the drive letter

Google the version of windows you have and how to change the drive letters its easy and uncomplicated.

regards

Jack

Turns out I had a faulty Glo... They replaced it with a new one and it works prefectly fine. I'm having a great time reading! Thanks!

Good to hear that you have gotten a replacement unit that is working. For the batch file, copy and paste the lines in the code box into a text file, then save the file as "showhidden.cmd" -- I'd suggest saving it to the desktop. After this, right click on the file and run as administrator.

Good luck!
