If there will be an upgrade,it will overwrite the patches (not the Leanandmean) but until now there was always a new patch for a new firmware.
In the patch you can also enable a way to block automatic updates,so you can wait until there is a new patch before you apply the firmware.
It can be possible that in a new firmware the leanandmean option is no longer supported,in that case it will not harm it to have it in the config file, but then it doesn't work anymore.
So, normally I do this: I disable the automatic upgrade in the patch.
When there is a new firmware, I wait until there is a new patch.
I watch the topic about the new firmware to see if the old options are still working and maybe new handy ones are discovered,or maybe new bugs are introduced and what impact it has.
Then I make the choice to upgrade, or wait for new updates, sometimes I skip updating because there is nothing added that make it worth to me,or there is a bug.
In this case, after the discovery of the leanandmean feature,it was worth for me to upgrade.

Nick, the patch notes mention that the option to block firmware upgrade is an untested patch. So it is a reliable way to prevent auto-upgrading? I've been loathe to turn on wifi since I've patched my Kobo for this reason.

I have tried it so many times, it is safe, it will not upgrade, I can sync, I can use the reading experience, the Kobo store, but the upgrade doesn't happen.

Post one of this topic is maintained by Murg, and it has all the firmwares in it, the current ones, and older ones, also a detailled description of how to up or downgrade, so it is easy.
The links on the topic, and the firmware itself are hosted by Kobo. (it is not tampered in any way,it points directly to Kobo,it doesn't come from strange or unknown sources..)

Yeah. I know about that and until today I used this links but for an unknow reason, when i use they my H2O is set to english at base language (i can later change it to spanish) instead of the one downloaded from kobo directly which set it to spanish from the begining. So i want to download firmware myself and compare with those linked here to know where is the different

As Nick_1964 already said, the links posted here are exactly the same as the ones your device or your desktop application would use (or would have used at a given time). The language is set in the configuration file, which is not part of the update package.

Yes, like I said before, I know the source of they but... I triple checked the language issue and really:
- if i install from the files on the post -> Initial language is english.
- if i install from kobo through kobo desktop -> Initial language is spanish.

Is the kobo desktop detect the language on device and change it on the fly?

The update files are exactly the same but when you update trough the desktop program, the desktop program settings remember your language and set that to default while transferring it to your device, when updating the files manually it doesn't pass the desktop program,it arrives at exact the same way as the OTA.
The desktop program helps installing, but it uses exactly the same source.
There are no different desktop or manual firmware files.
When u used the desktop program the first time,it ask and stores your default language and use that for future, but it is only a setting transferred to the device.
The files send to your device by the desktop are exactly the same files that you put on it with a manual update.
When you do a ota update (over the air,by connecting by wifi with the Kobo update server) it transfers exactly the same file to your device and installs it,as when you put it there manually, and the same does the desktop program, I don't even use the desktop program any more, it only consumes space.

I assume by "905 orig" you mean the model is the "N905". You are safe putting the newer versions on so long as you only use the KoboRoot.tgz file. As to which, I had no problems with any of them. Some people are having performance problems with 3.15.0, but I don't remember any reports for the Touch.

Yep sorry n905.

Updated to 3.15 and have to say I like it....Some nice changes.....

Did notice with 3.11 and now 3.15 doesn't seem to remember book page position(eg 66% read) if you add further books and it does the whole reloading thingy afterwards...

This a bug or just my kobo touch(n905)???

Yes, 3.15.0 includes changes to bring the UI of the Touch in line with newer devices. Hopefully Kobo will finish them and release another update soon.

That usually means the database on the device is corrupt. You can check this with my Kobo Utilities plugin for calibre or an SQLite browser. A compress can fix it, but it is more likely you will need to logout of the Kobo account to create a new database. Or, if you have a backup, you can restore that.
