Hi I'm new here. Thank u guys for everything. I live in a country where 30$ for removing ads means 1/5 of a typical worker's monthly wage! So I appreciate being able to remove those for free. So that's the only reason I have to jailbreak my device.
Just had a question. Would I be able to Un-Jailbreak it if that didn't work out well for me? Would my device be the same after that?
If not are there any other options for removing screensavers instead? I mean rather than the one described in "somewhere evil" cause I already did that.

I mostly think that's for the boosted storage space (4GB instead of 2GB [because Amazon bought Comixology, so, yay comics?]), which means we might also see updated 3G models... Oh, joy.

@arashsh0: Contact Kindle CS. They've been known to behave very nicely towards people with SO outside of the US. Also, check the forum's policies here.

@knc1: Methinks they're pushing 4GB models for Comics/BD, since they bought Comixology... If they do the same worldwide on 3G models, that's going to be fun... (That, or they ended up getting 4GB chips cheaper than 2GB ones? )

The Snapshots have been updated, and should now support the 4GB EU WiFi PW2.

(The files in the first post of this thread have *NOT* been updated, since I fear a few other new models will pop up...).

So I called up amazon cs and since I lived in Iran those nice guys unsubscribed me from ads for free before even I tell them the story!
But my main question remains unanswered here guys, does reseting kindle to factory settings remove the jailbreak thing?

@arashsh0: Yes and No. A racer nice part of it will go poof in a factory reset, but not everything.

The jailbreak is not anoying and I'm just using it to customize screensavers. But you know, I like to make sure that it's something I can revert later.

You can use the uninstall.bin, although there isn't much point. The jailbreak is just one extra file in the keystore to allow MR-signed updates to validate. But yes, you can delete even that.

No, it will not (as answered above).
Using the uninstaller will remove our certificate.

BIG NOTE:
But using the jailbreak un-installer will not make the device legal.

Since the Amazon (a US based company) provided cryptography will still be present and such technology is still a prohibited export to 5 countries (including Iran).

Small note:
It may also be illegal in your country (Iran) to privately own cryptographic equipment - which the Kindle contains (OpenSSL is installed plus it has cryptographic hardware in the SoC).
You will have to make local government inquiries about that.

@knc1 thanks for your information. But dude if cryptographic and encoding stuff was illegal here basically we shoud have kissed internet goodbye!!! That's not the case. And that stanford link is just old news. We were under U.S. embargo form importing these items but now the tie has been loosed and getting even better. The only issue for American companies like amazon or apple for not having official retailers in iran is that actually our own government has set some sanctions for importing some goods from uk and usa since 1978 revolution. Goods like cars. Which even that political issues are getting somewhat better day by day. And meanwhile we're talking here there's a struggle between GM, chrysler, renault, peugout and VW for gaining access to Iran's market.
It seems as other contries find out that here in east people has a different account than their governments (I actually believe that's a worldwide thing) their policies are changing toward us. There was a time when if u have contacted apple's CS and told them u're from Iran they'd have shut ur account and now I was chatting with apple's CS clients the other day and they gave me back my money for purchasing apps that didn't work well.
Sorry for talking so much. I thought it's an ebook forum so there are some curious readers here that would like to know these stuff.

All careful "words to the wise" on technical features of the device a typical end-user might not know about.

Not to be an alarmist:
If Amazon has retailing operations in your country, then they have already jumped all the trade, export, and import hurdles of both countries for you.
As a "John Doe" retail purchaser - your good to go with that assurance.

People in countries that have to purchase from "un-official" sources need to be a bit more careful.

In those cases, an explanation of:
"I found it in the backpack of a dead and decaying, foreign, solder" might not keep you out of trouble.
