Simple 2-D game creation software
08:23 AM by Bob Russell in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones
"Game Editor is the game design software that gives you the power to create the games of your dreams, with little or no programming or technical knowledge required. Game Editor lets you design and develop 2D games for personal computers and mobile devices. No need to worry about system issues or compatibility, no need to do anything other than come up with the ideas! Game developing has never been easier! ... Game Editor is designed to be portable across all popular platforms, including Windows (95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, 2003, XP), Linux, Pocket PC and Windows Mobile-based Smartphones." Back in the day, this would have been the most incredible news for me. But personally, I don't even bother to play games much so I guess I'll have to leave it to others who love them. Let us know what you think if you try it out. It's about $15 for the full version, no updates. About $100 for the full version with a year of updates. But there's also a trial version so you can test it out. (via PocketPCThoughts) |

PDA-friendly list of streaming radio sites
08:12 AM by Bob Russell in Archive | Portable Audio/Video
At the Mobile Stream Center you'll find "a slimmed down version of The Stream Center for your Pocket PC, Palm, or other Handheld PDA. Here, you will find all your favourite US radio stations webcasting on RealOne Player, Windows Media Player, Streaming mp3 and Other formats listed by US state." You can also search for stations by either station name or callsign. One downside I've noticed about streaming radio, however... if you have a favorite sports team you're hoping to follow, you may find the game coverage blocked out on the streaming feed due to contractual obligations. Custom Treo 650 ROM - step-by-step guide
05:06 AM by Colin Dunstan in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones
I am a complete unskilled newbie but after days of reading information I was able to make a perfect ROM for my Sprint Treo 650. I gained 4 megs of RAM since I placed in ROM 4 megs of my 3rd party programs that would usually be in RAM. More importantly I got rid of the junk applications that wasted space and occasionally caused me problems, like versamail. You know the drill... backup your data and be sure to follow the instruction carefully. Have fun while voiding your warranty. [via Make Blog] |

04:30 AM by Colin Dunstan in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones
Borken Sword follows the adventures and exploits of George Stobbart, an American tourist on vacation in Europe. When he witnesses the murder of a man in a Paris cafe, he takes it upon himself to bring justice to the killer. Early in the game, George finds some help by way of a young photojournalist by the name of Nico, who agrees to help him solve the case. Soon after, the two are thrown deep into a twisted tale of murder, conspiracy, and a heavy dose of European history. Get the trial from here. |

I just saw something on the local news this morning about the after Thanksgiving Black Friday ads being leaked onto the web early. I google'd it and sure enough they are online for BestBuy, Circuit City, etc. There are some decent deals there (42" Plasma EDTV for $999.99 at BestBuy, Syntax Olevia 27" LCD HD-Ready TV for $499.99 at Office Depot, etc.).
Minimo, the trimmed-down Mozilla browser that was previously only available for Pocket PC-based handhelds, can now be marvelled at in all its beauty on a Nokia 770. Doug Turner posted a couple of

There's a game design application that lets you create 2-dimensional cross-platform games (no PalmOS, sorry) without having to know how to program or know the details of each platform.
It's now a mainstream activity to listen to streaming radio stations. Not only can you listen on connected laptops, and on many specialty gadgets, but with applications like Pocket Tunes they are available to pda users with wifi or wireless network connections.
