On several occasions, I have read a series starter from the library and purchased the entire series to date.

It was the first book in a series, but it was also part of a omnibus edition that I purchased to get the entire series. So I voted other.

This is what I’ve done on many occasions. I have also listened to library audiobooks and bought hardcover copies of them.

Examples include:
#1: read the library copy of TWOK, purchased the entire series.
#2: listened to the library copy of An Immense World by Ed Yong, bought my own hardcover copy, gifted it to my father’s wife, bought another copy for myself.

It's been far too long since I borrowed a book from a library for me to know.

There was a time (1970s/1980s) when I practically lived in my local public libraries, and borrowed anything I wanted to read. I could only rarely afford to buy books, and owned few. I've since bought my own copies of some of the books that I read then.

These days, I have sufficient discretionary spending money available to be able to buy anything I want to read, and no longer borrow from the library. My teenage self would be hugely envious of my present lifestyle.

I have to go way way back, but years ago I'd certainly buy a book if I read it from the library and just had to have it. I'd pay full price for it, because that was the only real option then.

Now, while a lot of my reading comes from the library, I'm not going to buy a book once read no matter how much I liked it. I don't reread and I get no special extra frisson from owning a book rather than borrowing it. Any frisson comes from having saved the money.

I voted Other because I no longer borrow books from libraries and haven't for 30 years at least. But when I think back to my childhood/teenage years, then yes, I did buy a few books later that I had once borrowed from a library - paper books, mostly. I no longer remember the price, though. And of course I can't vote the second time, so I just posted it here.

I haven't been to a library in decades, and I stopped reading paperbacks since 2009. I have done it with music that I hear on YouTube and purchase the album on Amazon.

Yes, that's a very good point. In this country (UK), the Net Book Arrangement was in force until the late 1990s. Under this, publishers set the retail price, and there was never any sale price. If you bought from a bookshop, there was no alternative but to pay full price.

It was possible to get some books at a discount by joining a book club. This could be a good deal, but the downside was that you had to commit to buying a certain minimum number of books is a certain period... whether or not the book club was offering anything that you actually wanted.

Been a while since the Public Library was my regular source. Some was their budget got cut, so their new content dropped.
But like @DNSB, I may have started a series with a Library book, then said I WANT and hit the used book store first, then filled out the gaps at retail.

I stopped reading library books after I got my first job. I was 12 and my job was mowing yards. I mowed 14 yards a week not including my father's. That was one a day Sunday through Friday and eight on Saturday. I have always preferred to own my books.

I voted other because I have bought a book in a series when it wasn't available a the library. But it was not any of the books I had borrowed.

Very few of the books I've bought weren't read via library (paper or ebook) first. I rarely reread, but will buy a book if the price is right (depends on the book) and I think I would actually reread.
