UPenn's Online Books Page

09:29 AM by Bob Russell in E-Book General | Deals and Resources (No...

From the University of Pennsylvania library, there is an Online Books Page which seems to be a listing of all online books in English that are freely available.

A quick browse shows that Gutenberg books are also linked to, so this might be considered a links-only superset of Gutenberg. Looks like a great source.

Update: This was discovered previously by Francesco more than a year ago! Still, it's worth bringing it back to our attention now.

T-Mobile Sidekick rumored product roadmap leak

08:35 AM by Colin Dunstan in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones

Engadget just got a sneak peek at T-Mobile's supposed Sidekick roadmap for the next two years. Assuming it's not a fake (like we've never seen any before thanks to the people who have too much time), T-Mobile will

  • introduce a music-centric Sidekick III in April '06
  • support UMA technology in September '06
  • introduce Sidekick III limited editions in October '06
  • introduce the code-named "Sidekick NG" with support for music, video and UMA in June '07
  • introduce something RAZR-style-like.

NetFront 3.3 Technical Preview 1.02 available

08:06 AM by Colin Dunstan in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones

Although ACCESS must've been quite busy these days restructuring PalmSource and forming new alliances, it's nice to see that they're still updating the Pocket PC browser Netfront. Menneisyys had a closer look on the latest build and his findings are generally favorable.

To this download the preview version click here.

Another Palm convert... maybe

12:55 PM by Bob Russell in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones

One of our favorite personalities in the mobile computing world is Shaun over at PDA24/7. He quite shocked me with his latest installment of PDA Thoughts where he actually says, "After lots of sync issues, data loss and other problems I am seriously considering reverting back to Palm OS (shock horror!) It's reliable on the PDA and syncing fronts, has lots of applications and games available and has a huge fan base."

But don't get too excited Palm fans. He also says that few PalmOS programs are being released, he doesn't like the Treo650, and he says PalmOS is dying. Not exactly a huge recommendation for PalmOS, but yet maybe still better than Windows Mobile.

While I want very much for PalmOS to succeed and prosper, I am also now a little concerned about the consequences of their success. PalmOS for Linux is going to be real (but with a different name, of course), and based on the following promise from Shaun, it's going to have terrible ramifications! He says, "If a new version comes out I will post a picture of myself naked on the front pages..." We can only all hope that he means a picture from the neck up!!!

But however it all turns out, it's great fun to hear the discussion because everyone loves a good PalmOS vs Windows Mobile fight.
