finding MOBI ASIN for thumbnail name
I have a reference book in the form of a mobi file, sideloadeed to Kindle. It works fine, but has no thumbnail cover image.
I mostly make AZW by Kindlegen in Sigil, and I set an ASIN name in the OPF. That makes the AZW and a cover image in the format: thumbnail_ASINGOESHERE_portrait.jpg With other mobis I coud use kindleuppack to get image and an OPF which lists the ASIN, then make a thumbnail with the correct name. For this however, Kindleunpack crashes. So is there any way to find the ASIN used for the file? e.g., in any of the other readable files on the Kindle? I did look on Amazon, and it's not for sale, so probably not an official ASIN in any case. PW3 on 5.10.3 firmware, jailbroken. Last edited by AlanHK; 02-06-2022 at 07:01 AM. |

Send that book using Calibre and let Calibre create and transfer thumbnail file?
![]() If that book is missing ASIN you could also use Calibre plugin "Quality control" to insert a value as ASIN. Before sending the book file... |

I don't use Calibre to manage my files. So will leave that as a last resort.

Why would you want to need to do all those things manually?
Other than using Calibre the only suggestion I can make would be to use something like MobiMetadataEditor to read existing ASIN (and then use it in thumnail file's filename) or insert (as EXTH 113) if info is missing. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...98&postcount=1 Also, just to check: are you aware of an issues where Kindle is overwriting cover thumbnails for sideloaded books/docs when Kindle is connected to WiFi? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=329945 That is also a thing that Calibre fixes (on reconnection via USB cable with Calibre opened). |
