Kindle Voyage Leading Smart Quote Problem
I am having a problem with my Kindle Voyage. I've only noticed this problem since they updated the software.
On my side-loaded books and personal documents, when there is a leading smart quote followed by either a capital letter "C" or a capital letter "K," there is a space of perhaps three letters between the leading smart quote and the C or K. I can't reproduce smart quotes here, but it looks like this: [imagine that my " is a leading smart quote.] " Could I possibly go to the store today?" I could not go. " Katherine, please let me go to the store!" This appears in every instance where there is a leading smart quote and a capital C or K. It even appears on my personal documents. If I open the document with Calibre edit-book, it looks normal. If I read on my Nook, it appears normal. If I read it in Calibre it appears normal. It happens both at the beginning of a sentence and also within a sentence. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? |

Only fix: switch to a font other than Bookerly...

Yes and it is very annoying. I have had to swap fonts back to Caecilia to read Seeing A Large Cat by Elizabeth Peters.
Equally as annoying is the text seeming to jump from right justified to ragged right, which I know isn't really the case but depending on the word spacing. I prefer the justified but can live with right ragged, but the appearance seeming to change every other paragraph is testing my patience. I could play around with the font size to see if that would improve it, but why should I have to? Not happy. |

The Kindle has always displayed lines ragged-right if justifying the line would result in gaps between words that are too large.

@HarryT, with Bookerly in the book I mentioned the effect is more noticeable than usual and quite jarring.
The odd paragraph with slight raggedness in otherwise right justification is perfectly acceptable to me, but the example I referred to is much worse than that. |

Yes, good idea. I think I'll do that. Thank you.
