Because Amazon’s version was customized to include their proprietary features.
If you look at the HTML that is actually present in a KF8 file, instead of the cleaned up version that calibre and kindleunpack shows, you will see a lot of non-standard coding. Last edited by jhowell; 08-27-2022 at 07:15 PM. |

Here we are into September and Amazon is still accepting MOBI files via "Send to Kindle" through email, although they still send an email saying that they're going to stop accepting MOBI files in August of the past.
And the Send to Kindle app (at least for the Mac) does not allow sending ePub files. So it seems that their transition to EPUB is behind schedule? |

There was a heavy dysfunctioning with Send-to-Kindle in August : for a few days, some of the ebooks one sent never made it to one's account, while one did receive other ebooks in various langages. Whether that (now solved) issue had something to do with the planned changes I cannot say. |

The Kindle app for iOS just updated (v6.65): if you Share an ePub file, the Kindle app shows up as a target. Pretty sure Kindle app sends it to sever for conversion.
I have not checked the Android/Fire app yet. |

It's present with the Android apps as well. You can share an epub file using the Kindle app and a pop will show for you to edit the title/author of the book.

It seems that Amazon has somewhat modified its EPUB conversion pipeline to be somewhat more resilient some problems.
I got a bug report in my tools (https://kindle-epub-fix.netlify.app/) that said that their book has empty table-of-content when using Send-to-Kindle. Upon investigation, I find that the file in question has out-of-order TOC. The file failed entirely to convert using kindlegen, but it seems to be accepted by Send to Kindle. I have not independently verify this since I don't have a Kindle I am willing to put online at the moment. |

In my tests if a TOC link was to a non-existent target then only that link was removed. If any links were to hidden elements or body elements then the entire TOC was discarded. A mis-ordered TOC was also dropped completely. Unfortunately, EPUBs with missing character encoding still produce bad results. |

Is this conversion limited to certain Kindle models? Will it work with a Voyage?

Hello.
Something new since yesterday on Amazon France, that I would guess has something to do with the planned changes : When I send Mobis with Send-to-Kindle, they always appear on Kindle devices as : "Title (complete and correct, including accents, and in bold) / Author's name (real author's name, even if I leave my own name or anything else in the "author" field in StK)". Since yesterday, the Mobis I send show up on arrival just like PDFs (ie just as lousy) : "Title (mostly incomplete because with the uselessly added author's name it becomes too long, and with no accents)-Author's name (all this in bold) / Author's name, BUT if I want it to be the "real" author's name I have to write it by hand in StK, just as one has to do when sending by e-mail, else the result is whatever is written in the "author" field in StK (my name or a previous author's name"). Frankly I hate it because obviously the result is not half as satisfactory as it used to be. Maybe it is due to the fact that the sending of Mobis is really in its last days ? |

It sounds like the same thing also applies to sending MOBI using the STK app. Could you clarify that last statement? How do you get the correct author name to show when sending via email? |

Sorry, I was mistaken, there is no way to get the correct author's name by e-mail, which is precisely why I always use Send-to-Kindle with which this issue didn't exist so far.
