Well, I know that if it falls while my dogs are there it won't leave a greasy mark, just a puppy licky mark where it used to be.

Off Topic Yummines

I'm cooking this to go with the BBQ. For those of you not born in the South, but with lots of green tomatoes on the vine, I submit the following:

Fried Green Tomatoes

1.In a gallon Ziploc bag, put in about 1 ½ or 2 cups of self-rising flour. Add lots of salt and pepper and shake it up.

2.Slice up 4 or 5 or however many maters you want to fry, pretty thick, ½ inch slices. Put about 6 slices in the bag and shake. Let this sit for a while until the mater juices make the flour stick.

3.Heat a skillet with lots of oil to go halfway up the height of the mater slices. Put it medium hot and let it get good and hot. If the oil starts to smoke, turn down the heat a bit. Don’t put the maters in until the oil is hot, or it will ruin everything.

4.Put in the slices and leave them alone. When the bottoms are brown, use tongs and a spatula to turn them gently. Meanwhile, have 6 more slices of mater getting nice and gluey in the bag.

5.Drain on paper towels. Repeat until all of the slices are cooked.

Most people I know hold their knife in their right hand if right handed and in their left hand if left handed (so a majority use their right hand). From the discussion that has gone on I had assumed that people who cut up their food first and then eat it would hold their fork in their right hand, whereas if I'm using both a knife and a fork I'd hold it in my left hand.

Can't quite believe there's a thread about this

I'm left handed, but use my right hand to cut with, and my left hand to hold the fork.

I can get the food to my face faster that way...........

Well the food threads do seem to be popular, and I promise I'm not complaining, I just never thought anyone would care which hand I hold my knife in ...

The butter bells or crocks, use a base of water to keep it cool enough not to spoil, yet soft enough to spread.

And, no disrespect to you grandma, but I'd rather have my face fall off than melt off........
AHA! so mom was right, gma served us rancid butter (it stayed out all day long). And I think she preferred the melty face look because she looks a good few decades younger than she is. Quite remarkable, actually!

MMMMMMM No Ka Oi!

Oh I forgot, the bes' kine griddle is one of those George Foreman ones. It makes nice griddle marks on the bread. One of the small ones is just right for one of the above recipe!
Agree on the George Foreman grill!! My son would agree on the spam. I have to watch him, or he'll eat a whole can. I only like my spam in tiny squares in fried rice or scrambled eggs.

Same aforementioned son asked for butter with his rice last night. So I gave him a little chunk of butter to melt on it. Doesn't take me long to notice he's eating all the rice plain and saving the butter chunk. To eat alone. This is the same child who leaves finger marks in the butter in the fridge. From grabbing it. To tie this to the sandwich thread, I think his dream sandwich is a huge chunk of spam with a huge chunk of butter. Without the bread.
