They've been selling them on QVC for a couple of years. It looks intriguing, but then I think about summer and the A/C being off while we are at work until the timer goes off in the afternoon. You try it, then let me know if the tablecloth survives the meltdown, and if it does, I'll get one also.

I've never done quite that, but have been known to warm the pre-packed butter pats between my hands for a minute or so, in the hand that is in my lap. Good manners would suggest that one should balance them on the edge of the saucer that is under your coffee or tea in order to warm, but in the US, we hardly ever have saucers anymore. How common and pedestrian.

Then you submerge the whole thing in a flat bowl of cream of tomato soup, an’ eat um all up!
As I've posted many times before, my mom was a beautiful, independent, liberated woman. However, she was a terrible cook! Her idea of grilled cheese was to rip some cold margarine onto torn plain white bread, then slap on pieces of cheese (usually sans cellophane wrapper), then put it under the broiler until the smoke alarm went off.

So imagine my delight when Tim made me a grilled cheese when we were first married. He butters and browns the bread, then turns it over, re-butters it, then adds the cheese. So it is toasty inside and out. You can actually feel your arteries hardening, which is analogous to deliciousness as the smoke alarm was to doneness.

We never had butter either. Only margarine, and when "I can't believe they want us to think it tastes like butter" came out, Mom went to that. I love butter!

Last night I stopped reading this thread to put Ryleigh to bed at page 5. Only in the Lounge would a thread about toast be up to 120 posts. But, hey, I'm adding more so there ya go!!

When I was pregnant with Ryleigh, I had to be on special medication that made me very sick. I couldn't eat much more than plain toast for 9 months. I still eat it occasionally, but it took me a couple of years before I could stand the smell of toasted bread again.

When I was growing up, we never used real butter. When I moved out on my own and started cooking for my husband, all the baking and cooking books would say to use butter, no margarine. I couldn't believe how much better everything tasted. I haven't bought margarine in years. My doctor told me that as long as you use it like everything else, in moderation, it's fine.

Dixie, thanks for the butter bell link. My husband and kids are forever leaving the butter dish out so the butter will be soft when they want it. This will help stop the "mom grumblings". There were some pretty interesting products on the page as well. I do love a good gadget! I just wish I had more cabinet space.

When I was a young sailor back in the sixties, whenever we tied up next to a British ship, peanut butter was the ultimatum kumshaw (trading) material because the British sailors couldn't get it.

Is that still the case in GB? Sounds like an entrepreneuring opportunity to me!

No, peanut butter has reached our shores - we even have a choice; smooth or crunchy. My favourite is Whole Earth Organic Crunchy.

We also have cashew butter - I've not tried that (but I do like cashews).

au contraire. There is a thin layer of bread under that butter. A very thin layer.

If it looks like a crust, no matter what it is, pizza, the outside piece of cake, etc., Ryleigh won't eat it! Personally, I like the outside pieces of things the best.

my Girl Scouts in Germany always made bank at the festivals selling peanut butter covered crackers. they did them themselves, not the pre-purchased crackers. we always brought extra peanut butter as inevitably someone would offer about the equivalent of $20 for a jar of peanut butter. my enterprising young ladies LOVED to camp and were always looking for extra income!

when I was pregnant I came up with mixing together honey, butter and peanut butter. I would get it all creamy and blended and... mmmmmmm!

I just remembered that this is a poll. It looks like hot buttered toast wins by a landslide.

I'm hungry!

No, it's sold in British supermarkets. I once tried it, and didn't like it at all, I'm afraid.

oh! and incidentally folks! when we look at items linked at Amazon, if you are on a computer that your Amazon account is registered to, and your registration is active, it all goes into your Amazon browsing history and affects the recommendations "we have for you". I had not really paid attention to DGs butter dish link, that it was an Amazon page. I was searching for something else this morning, and up pops that butter dish! I had chills up and down my spine thinking; "they really ARE the borg!"
