But if you didn't jailbreak and it's on 5.19.2 or whatever then you won't be able to use it to dedrm.

I wonder if something like what shalym did with their Oasis 2 (9th gen) would work.

If a factory reset takes you back to a firmware lower than 5.18.5, then in this case a jailbreak to keep it there maybe. No idea if any of that would work or how long it would keep working.

I didn't bother checking last year because I figured if I hadn't already taken care of it, it probably wasn't something I'd miss. But now that both other pathways are going away, I thought I'd make sure.

I can't guarantee that it will work for other firmwares, but it certainly did for this one.

I have a Paperwhite 3 (gen 7) that had 5.16.2.1.1 and couldn't remove drm. After jailbreaking I downgraded the firmware to 5.14.2 and can again remove it. Not sure what lower-firmware might be available for your Oasis.

I'm wondering in general, though, whether jailbreaking plus hotfix, etc. will also provide protection against the exploit (my impression is that it's not a full firmware update but something different), but since downgrading firmware helped on my PW3, maybe having an appropriate firmware for your device in reserve could allow recovery of that ability if needed, especially if you jailbreak to prevent any major unplanned updates.

Does anyone know if 5.12.2.2 (not 5.12.2.2.2) can still be de-DRMed? If not, what was the last version? And where can I find it, please?
I may have to try the jailbreak idea despite my trepidation.

5.12.2.2 is the one that has been reported as not working. The final firmware for the Paperwhite 2 (6th gen) and the 7th gen Basic Kindle.

I have a 6th Gen Paperwhite with 5.12.2.2 on it and DeDrm 10.0.9 no longer works. I have tried using the Kindle4PC (2.4.7) method without any success - it won't connect to amazon in the first place.

I am willing to try and jailbreak my kindle, but, as far as I can see, all the posts about doing it this way involve downgrading from a version above 5.12.2.2 - i.e. and Oasis downgrading from 5.16.2.1.1 to 5.16.2.1 and it then working (possibly with a factory reset required). On the Paperwhite 6th gen - would I still need to downgrade? If so to what?

If I can't get it working this way I think I might have to try the android emulator route, but I'm reluctant to try that as it seems a little more convoluted.

Any help/suggestions gratefully received.

That was actually an Oasis 2, and before I factory reset it I jailbroke it and downgraded the firmware. I then factory reset it, and before I connected to wifi I filled the storage so that there was only 70 MB Free. Even then, after I downloaded the books to the device I immediately turned off the wifi, and when I connected the device to my PC there was a partial upgrade file. It's a complicated process, but it does work...for now.

Nothing needs to be done with an Oasis 3, as those are still working with DeDRM...for now.

I'm on a PW 6th Gen - Is a factory reset likely to be enough? I'm happy to jailbreak first if that's necessary, although I'm not clear how to prevent firmware updates before they can happen...
