Sats method for Kindle for PC still doesn't actually decrypt the current Kindle for PC keys. It works around that little issue. So all they could do to protect the tougher DRM books was to prevent them from downloading.

You’re the OP; you get to ask that people stay on topic, which posts asking for a PM are not.

So. I’m putting posters on notice to stop asking for PMs. It’s not too much to ask that newbies read the thread and comply. I’ll keep an eye on the thread and delete posts in violation; posts can also be reported.

I’m going to soapbox a bit and say that a point of a forum is the public conversation. While some conversations need to be private for various reasons, making a display of them gets in the way of the public discourse.

I am not looking forward to the day they stop Kindle for PC because I use it for the kindlesyncmetadatacache.xml and the kindle_cloud_collections and cloud_collection_items files found in the cache.

They help me keep track of things in Calibre.

Long time lurker, first time poster! Hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place; making a new thread seemed excessive. I did scan several pages of posts here, but couldn't spot the information I'm after.

I was a blissfully happy user of Method 4 for about two years: Had my BlueStacks nicely configured, got my high-res covers and illustrations, pumped a couple of paychecks into the Kindle ecosystem. Panic-downloaded my whole library before the door shut! Very thankful for all the posts and tools here letting me archive some of my more recent purchases, which I would have missed, otherwise.

So, I pulled the plug. No more Kindle or Unlimited, switched to Kobo... for a couple of months. I found myself missing some of the Kindle exclusive series I'd started, and began to pine for the upcoming releases. So, I ordered a heavily-used Kindle PaperWhite, as recommended here and in other threads, for Method 3. I set it up, and my books do download and load into Calibre just fine. The device downloads the books in AZW3+AZW6, as described. Wonderful!

The image quality, however, suffers greatly. Some of my books include illustrations, and the Kindle is downloading poorly-compressed images. In the most extreme case, the BlueStacks version of one book was over 20MB in size, where the Kindle PW version is under 4MB. Resolution is nearly halved, with very obvious JPEG artifacting. Seeing this, I feel like a bootlegger!

Is there a way to get nicer AZW6 images out of my new, old Kindle? If not, is there a different way to get the images, and combine them with the AZW3 files?

For higher res with releases after April 22, I believe your only option is kfx from Kindle for Android or Kindle for PC.

You went to NoDRM's github page, clicked on forks and looked at the displayed list? It is a bit of a pain to find the information but Google is your friend.

See https://github.com/Satsuoni/DeDRM_tools. That fork has been mentioned multiple times on MobileRead but better searched for from outside MobileRead.

I couldn't be more exact in what I was referring to without linking directly to it. David went that step further. To be frank, this method isn't for those who need handholding. In fact, it is more effort than I'm willing to bother with myself.

Yeah. Just yesterday, I bought a handful of books from Amazon after a long hiatus and the process repeatedly failed for some of them. I had to manually delete most of the files in my Kindle Content folder before it worked.

I don't buy that much from Amazon these days. While I do have two old registered eink Kindles, I can never be bothered to connect them to my PC. So I've been using Sats' method recently, although it's pretty convoluted.

Have you guys came across an issue where logging to either of the versions of 'Kindle for PC' (2.4.0 (aka 2.4.70904) or 1.17) causes "You must update your Kindle application to view this content." error message. This occurs after logging in with Amazon credentials; the app immediately prompts for an update and refuses to download the book unless updated.
Appreciate any ideas/input. Thanks

Amazon has disabled downloading books published after April 2025 with older versions of Kindle for PC. This goes for both 2.4.0 and 1.17.
