I want better buttons! Where I often hold the kobo my thumb is near bottom of the upper button/top of the lower button - and they are very stiff to press and make a louder noise when pushing them.

The other ends of the buttons are more easily able to be pressed and don't make a clicking noise.

I wish a 7-8" e-reader with
  • the form factor of a 6" ereader (I find this more manageable)
  • (I don't necessarily need physical buttons, but) I prefer buttons below the screen vs. next to the screen (like Libra 2)
  • faster processor
  • higher capacity battery (to compensate for a faster processor that requires more power and more recharges)
  • B/W 300 dpi (minimum)
I use a Kobo Glo HD and Libra 2, I like the larger screen of the Libra 2 but not the somewhat clunky form factor. My preference is for a larger size (>6“) e-reader but keeping the 6” form factor. This one has a “vertical” form factor instead of a more square design. The vertical design is easier to handle and hold.

I love the asymmetrical form factor with one wide edge. For me, it's much easier to hold than the symmetrical one.

Meanwhile I find myself holding my KLC by the "wrong" edge more often than not.

I'd skip it and have a narrower device personally.

I prefer asymmetrical as I can hold the device and turn pages with one hand.

Mobius screen would also help to use the device without a sleepcover (sometimes), and by that the device is more comfortable to hold without worrying about a potential screen-killing accident.

I also hold my KLC "upside down" and press the buttons (which I've inverted) to turn the page.

I use all my ereaders without a cover and have for the past decade.

I agree, though the lip needs rounded. However, it's due to how the halves connect. Four screws and the top wrapping at button side would be better than the clip together design that results in an edge at the buttons.

No, the Mobius substrate was so as to have a lighter chassis on larger than 7″ screens. It's likely got lower production yield and lower life. It won't help if you walk into a bollard or drop a can of beans on it (or mug etc). It was an interesting idea, but it's not flexible enough for a folding or roll up screen, so it seems almost abandoned by Eink Corp.

I only use a sleep cover on ones taken out of the house or maybe in storage.

Edit:
I've a calculator with a slide on cover that can slide on in reverse. Half the weight of a folding sleep cover. Another calculator has a double hinge on the front cover making it easier to open and fold underneath. Did the Sony PRS-350 have a single panel cover option? I have the PRS-350 but I've never even seen a photo of the cover.

Maybe Kobo is keeping back the Libra 2 update until then.
Very interesting. I wonder how many device makers will split their designs between EU and other markets. I don’t foresee American market mobile devices all being designed according to this rule, but I’d love to be wrong.

Well, for example, Apple had to replace their proprietary and obsolete connector with USB-C, since it's mandatory here in the EU.

True, but I still wonder if Apple will sell user replaceable battery devices in the USA. I personally hope they do, but I could see them spitefully selling a glued-in battery model here, and an EU regulation model there.

EU is a bigger market than the USA, and there are quite a few countries that are not in the EU and often implement EU directives (which have to be implemented in each EU country anyway).

It would cost Apple extra to do a USA only version of the battery.

That's what happened to me with my Oasis. I change hands a lot and hate having to rotate the reader. That is the main reason that I have held off buying a Kobo.

That is the only reason I keep buying Nooks, the buttons on both sides and symetrical form factor. It certainly isn't because of the software which is terrible.

Yep. AFAIC, there’s not a lot of point to 7” devices*. As long as you can run to two, 6” is for nightstand and out and about, while 7.8” to 8” is for armchair.

*That said, I have two 6.8” readers. <= They’re fine, good even, but definitely a compromise. Could I stand it? Of course.
I find my Libra 2 is a good size for portability. However, if there was an 8" device the same shape as the Aura H2O, then it might fit in my bag as it would not have the wider bezel and the screen may not bee too large.
