Boox leaf 2, released 2022. 7" asymmetrical design, warm light, page turn buttons, tf card slot, speakers (tinny, but nevertheless), rotation sensor.

2000mAh battery, 170g white version 185g black version (no idea why white version is lighter). Libra 2 1500mAh 215g

The leaf ran Android decently so I'm guessing the processor is faster than the Libra 2's.

I don't care for the boox software, which is why I returned the leaf 2. But the point is the Libra doesn't need to be so heavy and chonky. It's fine that it's bigger IF it's comfortable to hold, but for me it isn't. The raised lip works against me. There used to be a nook that's chonky looking but it felt good in the hand. The Libra doesn't feel or look particularly good, IMO. If it's not going to feel comfortable, then at least make it thinner and lighter

A lot of weight is a decent alloy chassis so the screen doesn't break easily. Some of the iRiver models were bad.

I remember when Bookeen made a Reader that was so bad that screen broke easily. Lots of people posted on here about the screen breaking for no known reason/

Yes, and add a Carta 1300 screen and it will be a fantastic device!

In order to get your wish of user replaceable battery, this new Libra will have to wait to be released until after February 18, 2027 where the EU law makes it have to have a user replaceable battery if it's to be sold in the EU.

I'm guessing that current EU law doesn't prevents Kobo from releasing ereaders with user replacable batteries prior to 2027.

No, it doesn't. Indeed in the last year I've bought gadgets that don't need any tool to replace the battery/cell.

I'm on JSWolf's side here. I like long battery life. And the weight difference wouldn't have be that great.

If Kobo comes out with a 7" BW Reader after February 18, 2027, I'd consider buying it as it would have a replaceable battery.

I'm not holding my breath.

I want a new Forma, with the thinness and Mobius technology but the new Carta 1300 screen. That'd be more worth it than a new Libra, IMO. Something that replaced the Sage.

I picked up a Clara BW for the pocketable nature of it, along with the ability to run it without a frontlight indoors.

Same. Poorer battery has no user issues other than you have to charge it a little more frequently. Folks who need something that lasts weeks out in the wilderness away from electricity are a rather small niche.

Too much weight in a device can cause physical pain for some of us.

And it absolutely impacts portability, more so than size! I much prefer to carry my Forma out and about to my Sage, for instance.

I want a battery life that is similar to earlier readers: at least 2 weeks between charges. I would rather not sacrifice weight/size for longer charging intervals. I've been happy with all of my 6" readers.

You charge more frequently and you then have a duff battery sooner. It's better to have a battery that needs less charging so it lasts longer before it needs to be replaced.

Yes! That’s my dream device. And no buttons to add bulk but no added functionality. I always figured I’d get a Forma, but the price never came down as it got older and older. So here I am, with an Aura One as my primary device.

Yep. AFAIC, there’s not a lot of point to 7” devices*. As long as you can run to two, 6” is for nightstand and out and about, while 7.8” to 8” is for armchair.

*That said, I have two 6.8” readers. <= They’re fine, good even, but definitely a compromise. Could I stand it? Of course.
