I think the problem is that the update bin file was downloaded before that.
Marek, I assume the instructions should advise to keep Wi-Fi off and keep an eye on these files and delete them from time to time.

If I understand OTA mechanics, it dowbloads whenever it can, but needs either a) long user interactionless standby; or b) manual restart, which users do to get JB.

Just installing isn't enough. You have to start it in kual and hit the option to rename ota. "Or whatever it was". The other option is to rename the files manually with kterm. On my scribe on 5.16.2, I haven't had any issues.

It looks like I have completely lost the jailbreak because ;un doesn't work.

After the attempt, I suddenly remembered in the jailbreak script, there is a line of code that adds the developer public key to it. Is that the key used for verifying ota updates? If yes, I may use kindletool to make an ota to re-obtain root privileges. But I'm facing another issue: I have used renameotabin to prevent ota updates, so ota cannot be performed anymore (Upgrade my kindle button becomes grey). I have tried to use downgrader and then reboot. The downgrader file itself disappeared, and it is not working.

First: ;un doesn't have *anything* to do with the base JB/bridge, so it won't really help you suss out anything meaningful. It breaking after a FW update is *completely* normal (assuming you actually had it working in the first place by having installed USBNetwork).

If you can't run ;log mrpi nor ;log runme, you are indeed SOL.

I mean, you could try an emergency.sh, but that's usually contingent on the same stuff that ensures ;log works, so, if one's gone, it would follow that the other would be too.

(Also, modifications to that last approach should only be attempted by a trained professional, as a screwup in a bridge emergency script *will* soft brick your device. People *have* killed their device this way in the past.)

I see. Thanks for telling me. I already tried emergency.sh but not working. So I guess the best way is to disable the WIFI and for the next jailbreak.

Is there actually a way to prevent any system update from Amazon(except using airplane mode)? I still get updated even when I use the renameota and do the update.bin.tmp.partial trick. These methods are not perfect. I don't know if removing the task that automatically updates the system during non-active hours is possible.

Maybe I could help on this in future after I get jb again

BTW, I am sure that I didn't see any .bin files after I did everything yesterday evening (Installing extensions and tryout usbnet). I did confirm that renameota actually did rename ota binaries. But it really looks like I have an update bin already downloaded because my system is not the latest version (It is 5.16.3.1). Maybe I have done something wrong or something unknown is happening?

I've followed the instructions but as this is my first JB I have a couple of quick questions:
1: is there any way to determine if the hotfix was applied successfully? I had a few issues and want to make sure it was done properly.
2: Am I safe to "register" the Kindle again, or will that force and update that breaks the JB?

stuck on step16 ,after I do step15, overwrite the contents of the LanguageBreak, then eject and hold the power button, I cannt see language selection menu, it will reboot to normal mode.
if I back to demo mode, Resell again, its the same, reboot to normal mode.
try many times, dont know why.

Yep, Kindle Scribe! Here's the X's from my serial number: ___2 3M__ ____ ____ - bought it in Germany. Let me know if you need more!

Given that I now have this BRIDGE thing rather than the jailbreak, and since I'm now on 5.16.3.1, I cannot do anything with it like downgrading and need to wait, right?
