How to Undo "Copy all author sort values to author"
I made a huge mistake. In "Manage Authors" I meant to click the "Recalculate all author sort values" button, but I slipped and clicked the "Copy all author sort values to author" button.

For me "Copy all author sort values to author" not only changes the database, it also changes the author folder names - e.g. from William Shakespeare to Shakespeare, William. The "Recalculate all author sort values" doesn't touch the folder names, nor does it change Shakespeare, William back to William Shakespeare. BR |

However, there is hope. The Quality Check plugin can bulk "fix" authors, in your case (I think) by converting "LN, FN" to "FN LN". You would first use Quality Check / Check metadata / Authors with commas. Then select all books found (which might be all the books) and run Quality Check / Fix / Swap author FN [...]. NB: this can take a while because it must rename all the author folders. |

I had a good recent backup, so I just reverted to that to fix the issue. I am definitely going to install the Quality Check plugin, though. Thanks for the help everyone!

Because the "Copy all author sort values to author" is destructive perhaps it should have an confirmatory popup.
