Curious... what's the trick exactly? I'd like to try it.
Do I change the extension of the MOBI file? If so, what should I change the extension to?

You have to convert your source format into ePub and delete the Mobi if it's not the source format.

There was the trick of sending an epub renamed to png (filename.epub => filename.png) to allow sending an epub book. So you might want to try renaming filename.mobi => filename.png and sending it as a test.

Clarification: Amazon now accept ePubs for their email-to-kindle process, and later in 2022 their "Send To Kindle" programs will be updated to accept ePubs. There has been no announcement about Kindles being able to display ePubs natively.
Interesting! I converted some .mobi books to .epub because of this and found that Amazon dropped the cover pictures during conversion to Kindle format. I then renamed the .mobi files to .epub and Amazon retained the cover pictures. I hope this helps!

For others struggling to have their `.epubs` accepted via email, after reading through this whole thread, the best thing I found was using Amazon's Kindle Previewer program to attempt to open the file. If it opens successfully, then I've had a 100% success rate emailing the files to my Amazon send-to-kindle address. When it fails, there is then a semi-helpful error message to narrow down what needs to be corrected. In my case, it was incorrect font names and Table of Contents links that broke rules.

You will have to correct the errors with any number of the techniques discussed in this thread. I'm obviously not excited about adding more tedium to the process of getting ePubs on my paperwhite, but I regularly read on two different devices. Amazon's whispersync feature has been great for that, but I might re-evaluate if they throw any more wrenches in the works.

Thanks for this suggestion. I just tried the newest 3.66 version of Kindle Previewer.

For my first test, I opened a 1.7 MB epub. It took several minutes to open, but it eventually opened without errors. I closed it and emailed it to my Kindle. It's now a 953.6 KB file in my library.

Next, I opened the same book, but I had processed this copy with Calibre's modify epub plugin. That version was 923 KB and it opened a lot faster. I closed it and emailed it to my Kindle, which resulted in a 950.8 KB file in my library.

I could not tell any differences between the two while perusing them on my Kindle, so perhaps the fact that Kindle Previewer did not complain is indeed a good sign that an epub is ready for sending to Amazon?

Thanks again.

I was having problems sending some epubs to my Kindle. I tried following all of the fixes in this thread with no luck. Anyway, for someone who maybe also has this issue on one of their epubs, here's a thread where I described my solution: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...49#post4242549

Basically, Kindle Previewer was giving me table of contents errors. It turns out the epub's ToC were trying to reference an id in an HTML body tag and the Kindle epub converter didn't like that. So I moved the ids to div tags instead. For example, I started with this in my problem HTML files within the epub:

...
<body id="xxx">
...
</body>

and ended up with this:

...
<body>
<div id="xxx">
...
</div>
</body>

This fixed my very specific problem!

So, I'm now using the Modify Epub plug in and Kindle Previewer which I find 100% successfully tells me if the modified epub will open on the recipient device. However, the only problem I have now is that when in Kindle Previewer, the aesthetics of the books aren't great. The margins are different on many lines (indented paragraphs and speech etc). How do I get them all to align to the left as I'm afraid the layout is otherwise hurting my eyes!! At the moment Kindle Previewer is set to Font Bookerly and Size 4. What tweaks do I have to make in either Modify ePub plug in and/or Kindle Previewer to get a better easier on the eye layout please? Many thanks in advance.

Can you please show us some screen shots of what you are talking about? Sometimes text is meant to be offset.

In the second shot especially, too much indentation and non alignment. Hurts my eyes. Am more used to fixed alignment at the left margin, except perhaps for one indentation at the start of each paragraph. This one's a bit too much for me, but maybe that's just me. Didn't feel like this before when just sending mobis. Is it just me?

Open the book epub in Calibre editor or Sigil and fix CSS code / change "text-indent" to a smaller value?

A lot of Kindle eBooks have a 7% text indent. Also, use the Hyphenate This! plugin or the Calibre option under polish to add soft hyphens. Then problem is that to prevent wide gaps, Amazon will shorten the line and it won't go all the way to the right margin.

But other then the overly large indents, I don't see what you see.

Your sample is composed of a series of very short paragraphs and so most of the lines end up being indented. That looks normal to me.
