I've never tried Kobo Nickel in KePub. Once I tried it in ePub and found itr unsuitable, I've just ignored it until this thread brought it up.

On a side note, it was fun to see the old home screen even if it wasn't functional in any meaningful way.

Back then it was a good way of giving your main GUI a face-lift if you added your favourite serif and sans-serif fonts to your /fonts directory by renaming them (internally and externally) as Georgia and 'Avenir Next' respectively. It's no longer the 'best' way to to customise GUI fonts, but it worked fairly well. There are a couple of minor drawbacks but it's safe and it does survive firmware upgrades. If it's something you're interested in I can try to find the thread where we discussed GUI fonts in some detail.

I bought a no-name USB-C cable at the convenience store that is long enough to reach the caseless Kobo in my pocket. Oh, and something positive about Nook.

Now that firmware has advanced font settings enabled for all fonts, the only reason I would have to patch the device is for kerning and ligatures. So I’m wondering if I can make do without patching at all. Last edited by howyoudoin; 04-21-2022 at 07:44 PM.
