Well, not everyone has had these issues. I had no problems with updating my Libra 2 to 4.32, and I did that directly from 4.30.

Is it safe to update fw manually to 4.32 with nickelmenu and nanoclock and patches in my current fw (4.30)?

I don't use nickelmenu or nanoclock, but manually updating to 4.32 from 4.30 and patching went smoothly.

Yes, NickelMenu survives the manual update process. No problem there. I do not use NanoClock, however.

When the thumb drive is mounted by the operating system, a bit is flipped in its metadata (the "dirty bit"). When you eject, the bit is cleared and the drive is unmounted. If you yank it out without ejecting, the bit is left on, and next time you put it in, windows will complain and ask to repair it.

You say it is working fine, but there may be filesystem damage including partially written files, partially allocated blocks, partially deleted stuff, etc.

Hmm... do I need to use templates to do this? I have a custom column that holds the page count from the Count Pages plug-in. It seems overly complicated to use a template to get that metadata written. But as it stands right now, my books in Kobo (as kepub) have a floating number of pages that changes if I adjust the font size. (Basically it's showing me screen count not page count.)

Yes, as stated in my post, you must use templates. They can be a simple template like the one I posted which just returns the value for a column. Or they could be more complicated and do something else. The page and word counts could have been done by specifying a column name, but, that is no easier than the template, and a lot less flexible.

And to be clear, this is not the page number displayed when reading. This is a fixed number that is generated somewhere else (Count Pages plugin, from a site, by looking at the paper book, or some other way). As I stated, for purchased books, it is the number shown in the store for the book. Whether it is a purchased book, or sideloaded, if this number matches the page count shown when reading, it is a coincidence.

The only plugin that I know of for word counts is the Count Pages plugin. That is "ancient", but is also completely up to date.

Do I understand correctly that word counts will be added to the next update? Or did you mean Calibre 5.0?
The next release of calibre will have a way to populate the new book statistics that Kobo have added the firmware.

What is the best way to get word counts now anyway?
Honestly? Based on the "discussions" about page and word count, a random number generator is probably as good a way as any. Otherwise, it's basically do it yourself, or the Count Pages plugin.

They should add it as option to the count pages plugin.

Oh, I bought the Clara three years ago. I have the Glowlight 3, but never get to use it and I wanted an amber screen of my own.

It's not Windows, or at least it isn't with the Kobo warnings. If you read through the 4.31 thread, it's a bug people have mentioned. Not new to .31, but an existing bug that got worse?

Just hope this is a link to the file from your kobo. The Amazon one did need editing with font forge, though it’s not difficult to do.

I hadn't connected my Libra 2 to PC since updating from 4.31 (through 'Check for Updates'), so I tried it to make sure; it's working fine here. I hadn't reverted to 4.30 since the only issue I'd had was an (not specific to 4.31 or connecting to PC) occasional freeze fixable by power off/on. No idea whether occasional freezes are typical on ereaders, but they were infrequent (maybe one per month).
