Thanks! Yes, on the Kobo there was an alternation. I hadn't uninstalled the old system, but I couldn't use them together, although it wouldn't actually make sense to do so :-)

I've used the Onyx Boox Note3 for a short while now, and I can't get the same clarity on other apps than the native, so for legibility I prefer the native reading app so far, although to properly read I just gotta have the translate and bookmarks and such from FBReader Premium.

After trying pretty much every big reading app around on my Nova 3, I always come back to the native app, because it's somehow the most clean, functional and easy to use. I especially like the library book management and the small persistant info in the bottom of the screen like time, battery and page. However it's best coupled with extra fonts, like Bookerly or ChareInk (simply put the font files in the fonts folder in the root of the device memory).
But of course it's not perfect, it lacks some options like grey background or reverse night mode, and some text customization options are sometime a bit too limited. So my second choice is MoonReader+, which I owned and used for many years now. It has all the options you could want, and also has a great books manager. Then after that there is Koreader, very functional but not easy nor pretty. All the other I tested severely lacked on some aspect, like confusing settings, text formatting not very good, lacking options or library management... |

I'm trying out AlreaderX. I had already found Alreader to be good, but AlreaderX seems even better. So far it's the one that comes closest to what I need and it seems very customizable.

I definitely like the build-in reader, however my biggest problem with it is the missing reading position sync. I have Poke 2 color and a Nova 3 that I use interchangeable and they don't sync position or reading statistics. It also doesn't support adobe DRM so you'd either need a second app for that (eg. ADE for Android) or remove the DRM.
As I also have a Pocketbook color (with a far better display than the Poke 2 color), I switched to the Pocketbook reader app. You can deactivate the page turn animations and everything works fine with it (except the weird display issue for the in-book menu that really doesn't affect me in any way) so I'm content with using it as my main app. I also have a number of kindle books so I have that too. Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit glitchy with the page turn animations. Even though I deactivated them, depending on how long or whatever I touch the screen, the animation still shows. Not sure what I've done wrong but I hate this unpredictable behaviour. Kindle lite could be an alternative for this, even though it's grandfathered by now. |

Neoreader has a very poor support of ePub CSS, I could use it only for simple "text only" ePub. But Neoreader has also a killing feature: the ability to handwrite notes on ePub. I'm loving it and I'm sorry that this feature is active only in this player which is so poor in handling CSS and which has some bugs still not fixed.
Other nice ebook readers app IMHO: - KOReader for good CSS support and underline options - NamoReader for EPUB3 |

Another vote for Koreader. I can’t use Neo Reader because there’s no justification setting. Full justification drives me crazy.
