Who Buries the Dead is the tenth in the Sebastian St. Cyr series by C. S. Harris. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. I've read and quite liked a couple of the recent titles in this series.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KWG61R8
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00KWG61R8
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/who-buries-the-dead

Spoiler:
Quote:
The grisly murder of a West Indies slave owner and the reappearance of a dangerous enemy from Sebastian St. Cyr’s past combine to put C. S. Harris’s “troubled but compelling antihero” (Booklist) to the ultimate test in this taut, thrilling mystery.

London, 1813. The vicious decapitation of Stanley Preston, a wealthy, socially ambitious plantation owner, at Bloody Bridge draws Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, into a macabre and increasingly perilous investigation. The discovery near the body of an aged lead coffin strap bearing the inscription King Charles, 1648 suggests a link between this killing and the beheading of the deposed seventeenth-century Stuart monarch. Equally troubling, the victim’s kinship to the current Home Secretary draws the notice of Sebastian’s powerful father-in-law, Lord Jarvis, who will exploit any means to pursue his own clandestine ends.

Working in concert with his fiercely independent wife, Hero, Sebastian finds his inquiries taking him from the wretched back alleys of Fish Street Hill to the glittering ballrooms of Mayfair as he amasses a list of suspects who range from an eccentric Chelsea curiosity collector to the brother of an unassuming but brilliantly observant spinster named Jane Austen.

But as one brutal murder follows another, it is the connection between the victims and ruthless former army officer Sinclair, Lord Oliphant, that dramatically raises the stakes. Once, Oliphant nearly destroyed Sebastian in a horrific wartime act of carnage and betrayal. Now the vindictive former colonel might well pose a threat not only to Sebastian but to everything—and everyone—Sebastian holds most dear.

If your French is up to it, and you want to read the first Maigret story, Pietr-le-Letton, by Georges Simenon, in its original language, here's a cross-post to the Forum Français: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/se...rchid=15082718

Pietr is on sale for €1.99, £1.49 and $1.99 at various Kindle stores. It's pretty rare to see French ebooks on sale, at least in the US, so grab it if you want it.

My French probably isn't up to it, but I'm going to give it a try anyway...

Bloodstone is the eleventh in the Brother Athelstan series by Paul Doherty. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08HJXXQKD
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08HJXXQKD

Spoiler:
Quote:
A strange and ominous artifact could hold the key to everything...

December, 1380. When the corpse of Sir Robert Kilverby is discovered in a locked room, Brother Athelstan accompanies the King's coroner to investigate.

Sir Robert had in his possession a priceless relic, a sacred bloodstone, which has now disappeared. Did Sir Robert die of natural causes or was he murdered?

Athelstan is sceptical of rumours of a curse hanging over Sir Robert, but when it is discovered that a second old soldier has been gruesomely slain on the same night, the rumours no longer seem so far-fetched...

Aristotle and Poetic Justice is the second in the Aristotle Detective series by Margaret Doody. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable). I've read and enjoyed the first three titles in this series (the rest don't seem to be available in e-book).

Quote:
The great Greek philosopher heads to Delphi on the hunt for a kidnapped heiress in this series of “witty, elegant whodunits” (Times Literary Supplement).

330BC: Alexander the Great has sacked Persepolis and won the greatest fortune the world has ever known. The night of the Silent Dinner, when Athens placates the spirits of the dead, passes with a creeping mist accompanied by eerie portents and a strange disappearance. Stephanos and his teacher, the philosopher Aristotle, are about to be drawn into solving the perplexing abduction case of Anthia, the heiress of a prominent silver merchant. All that is known is that the abductor and the heiress are on the road to Delphi and its ancient oracle—whose help may be needed when a murder complicates the case in this follow-up to the “eminently enjoyable” Aristotle Detective (Colin Dexter, author of the Inspector Morse Mysteries).

“Why did no one think of this before?”—The Times (UK)

A Private Cathedral is the most recent (2020) in the Dave Robicheaux series by James Lee Burke. It is on sale at Kindle UK for £0.99 as part of today's Daily Deal. If things go as they usually do, this won't be on sale in the US for a while still, and when it does go on sale it will be for $2.99 or $3.99, so if you want it, I'd grab it now if you can.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083PYM19V/
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083PYM19V/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Detective Dave Robicheaux is caught in the crossfire of Louisiana's oldest and bloodiest gangland feud...

From the wreckage of Louisiana's oldest and family rivalry, Detective Dave Robicheaux faces his most sinister enemy yet . . .

Isolde and Johnny - the star-crossed teenage heirs to New Iberia's criminal empires - have run away together, and Robicheaux is tasked with finding them. But when his investigation brings him too close to both Isolde's mother and her father's mistress, the venomous mafioso orders a hit on Robicheaux and his partner, Clete Purcel.

In order to rescue the young lovers, and save himself, Robicheaux must face a terrifying time-traveling superhuman hitman capable of inflicting horrifying hallucinations on his victims, and overcome the demons that have tormented him his whole life...

Patricia Moyes/Henry and Emmy Tibbett titles are going on sale fast and furious, or at least, four at a time. Two of these are repeats, but the other two were new to me. Oh yeah, $1.99 each. Hopefully Felony & Mayhem press keeps discounting this series, since I still need pretty much the latter half of the series. (And I like some other F&M authors...)

All the Devils Are Here is the latest (2020) in Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series, which I love - and apparently so do the critics, since every previous title in the series has been nominated for and/or won at least one award, and most for multiple awards. It was briefly £0.99 at Kindle UK a while back, but if you missed that, it has now dropped to $4.99 at Kindle US, as part of the Daily Deal today, matched at Kobo US. This is not a great sale price, but considering that it has been sitting at $14.99 since publication, and considering the popularity of the series, I thought I'd post it.

Spoiler:
Quote:
The 16th novel by #1 bestselling author Louise Penny finds Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Quebec investigating a sinister plot in the City of Light

On their first night in Paris, the Gamaches gather as a family for a bistro dinner with Armand’s godfather, the billionaire Stephen Horowitz. Walking home together after the meal, they watch in horror as Stephen is knocked down and critically injured in what Gamache knows is no accident, but a deliberate attempt on the elderly man’s life.

When a strange key is found in Stephen’s possession it sends Armand, his wife Reine-Marie, and his former second-in-command at the Sûreté, Jean-Guy Beauvoir, from the top of the Tour d’Eiffel, to the bowels of the Paris Archives, from luxury hotels to odd, coded, works of art.

It sends them deep into the secrets Armand’s godfather has kept for decades.

A gruesome discovery in Stephen’s Paris apartment makes it clear the secrets are more rancid, the danger far greater and more imminent, than they realized.

Soon the whole family is caught up in a web of lies and deceit. In order to find the truth, Gamache will have to decide whether he can trust his friends, his colleagues, his instincts, his own past. His own family.

For even the City of Light casts long shadows. And in that darkness devils hide.
