Techradar says the battery will be slightly bigger at 1130mah - still quite small but a step in the right direction, I suppose.

I'm in the same position. There are Voyage battery replacements available but they look kind of tough to install (at least according to the YouTube video I saw)...

I assume you are talking about the magnet case that attached such that half of the back was still exposed, and not the magnet on the front to allow for auto wake/sleep? Amazon is advertising compatibility with the existing Amazon covers that have magnets for auto wake/sleep functionality Scroll down to the section where cases are discussed in the link below. Also, if you click the Pre-Order link, you'll have an option to add one of the EXISTING Amazon leather/fabric covers to the order...

I did it about 2 months ago, and even with the great video that comes with the replacement battery, from my experience it's anything but easy. Extremely difficult to remove the case and old battery, IMHO.

A warm light was the only thing I really wanted from my Kindle, so I preordered one in the configuration I have (3G, 32GB, no offers - didn't see an offer toggle on the order page, so if it comes with them I can just remove them).

I have one of the discontinued magneti fabric c covers and a thirdparty full fabric case as well. When it shows up I'll try sticking the magnetic cover on. If it works, great. If not, thirdparty cover it shall be.

Hmmm... , and only 3 pages in this thread? Six or more years ago a new Kindle announcement thread would have dozens or scores of pages within a few hours! I think it is a sign of the times where many have moved on to other devices for reading and abandoned eInk devices. They certainly don't seem that popular any more, judging by the lack of interest in the forums.

Don't they seem more popular than non eink devices? Isn't there more activity on the Kindle and Kobo forums, with the Android and iOS forums seeing much less activity?

I don't think it means necessarily that people don't use eink any more. It just means that eink devices are no longer the sensation they were 10 years ago, they have become common and naturally the excitement is no longer all that huge. I still remember when new smartphones generated lots of chatter on the forums, now everyone mostly yawns when a new smartphone comes out. If it's even noticed at all. Does that mean people have gone back to dumb phones? Of course not.

My inference is that people are satisfied with the eInk devices they have and don't see the point of an outlay for an incremental improvement. In my own case, my Aura One was still good enough when the Forma came out and similarly several here with the Oasis have said it's not worth upgrading only for a comfort light.

It's a mature market. People know how to use their devices. It's not surprising we don't get nearly so many trying to figure out the new shiny.

I think it's more a function of no big leaps in technology for the eInk Kindles. The new generations seem to be very incremental in their improvements vice introduction of brand new capabilities/features never before seen. Just my $.02.

I'm with Sirtel on this one. E-ink devices have just gotten pretty good overall. Features across devices are mostly on par with each other with a few exceptions. The need to always upgrade to the latest and greatest (especially with so few changes) isn't that exciting anymore.

All of the people I know that own e-readers from 2017 or after, say they have no other compelling reason to upgrade besides possibly getting something that's new and shiny or just different software. Overall, the new Oasis is really none of those things. Same format, same software, and from what we can tell, only a single different function in the lighting. At least the pricing has stayed basically the same so that those who already planning to get a new Oasis will get this nice addition.
