Have found out that new NOVA comes out in april. But, what are the differences, except WACOM stylus in Nova Pro? Kinda ridiculous.

It was already known that a Wacom stylus version of the Nova will be coming out and is named the Nova Pro. It's otherwise identical.

At some point they also said that the Nova Pro with the Wacom stylus would not have a frontlight (as used to be typical for the older onyx devices). I don't know of that is still the case or of it'll have both stylus and frontlight.

I just realized that if i tap long enough on a jpg/png i have the possibility to set it as screensaver standby 1,2,3 or power off screen.
Do you have some nice b/w pictures with the Nova resolution?
Can we extract the original one from the encrypted firewall?
For instance, i would like just to add my contacts to the poweroff default screen

I didn't change it because i don't know how to go back to the original screensaver if i want it. I searched in the media folder but it's not there.

Can't recall offhand if that function is available on Neoreader, Onyx's native reading app. However, you can always install third party reading apps with such capabilities such as Moon+ Reader.

It looks like the added ability to take notes with a stylus will be the only difference.

That said, things can change. With other Onyx devices, expected features have disappeared. New features have materialized. We won't really know until there are reviews of the finished product.

But April isn't that long off, assuming, of course, that the device comes out on schedule which hasn't always been the case.

I'm seriously considering buying Onyx Nova. There is a video that shows that it can playback youtube videos. I cant do that in my actual devide

I want the device to use edx application, please can any of you be so kind to test this application in your Onyx Nova? do the videos work?

i will try it, but keep in mind that you will need an external blueetooth speaker/headset to listen to audio.

@elchamaco, i played a little bit changing all of them to some other images,
as for reverting to original screensavers you can tap again on an whatever image file on your nova and select "reset".
@menpe good image !

i remember Booxstor had a collection of black/white picture at decent resolution on a website in m92 days.
I was interested into the original pictures in order to do minimum edit like adding my name/email to the standard power off image.
Tried to browse system fs with a file browser but no luck.
Should be hidden in some system apk but i got bored searching.

I'm surprised that you say youtube is not working on Kepler.
Did it fails to install?
You must always use A2 mode even for an animated gif video.
I just installed EDX on the Nova, and it seems to works, also videos, to the e-ink possibility.
I'm hearing some guys speaking and below video you have the text of what they're saying.

Keep in mind that Nova has no internal speaker or standard jack so you will need a bluetooth headset/speaker

I don't remember if youtube worked in kepler, let me elaborate... My kepler used android 4.0 and I updated it to Android 4.4.4 using a rom downloaded from the net (I used MfgTools, not an expert just used a step by step guide). This was a good decisión for me because my main problem with Kepler is that due to the old OS many apps didn't work (I still have that problem with many apps and I hope that is solved with android 6) . The OS is so old that even using old apps version they didn't launch.... And the resolution (now is higher so more info is in the screen with 4.4.4, this will be solved in Nova because its larger screen). With my current rom I can't play videos, I can confirm you that.


I use a lot the ereader 60% as ereader (Moon+ reader that works in 4.4.4) and 40% as tablet (i love eink)
As tablet i use an app to memorize called ANKI which I really love.
I´m also adict to MOOCS in edx.org but the drawback for me is that i cant use edx with eink.

If edx app (link above) works in Nova (at least videos) I will buy the device instantly

Regarding sound , have any of you tried using an usb-c to 3.5 jack in order to avoid bluetooh hearphones?

I hope you can give me some feedback on edx app and USB-c to jack adaptor
