Thank you for your thoughts. This is the first I've heard that the screen is sharper, that is nice to know. In pic comparisons it's hard to tell. I do a lot of my reading at night so I'm a little concerned about the lighting being uneven. I've had trouble in the past getting evenly lit Kindle screens, so my H20 was a breath of fresh air for me in more ways than one. I love my H20, but covet that big Aura One screen. I think I may wait until they start getting them in stock at more bricks and mortar stores in Canada instead of ordering online now. I'm in NY state, but I'll take a trip over the border to check them out.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I'm going to stick with it and see how it goes. It's not as noticeable to me as the Kindle screens. And some suggest it's how life is with flush screens, which make be the case. Although my Nook Glowlight Plus has fairly even lighting. But yes, nothing comes close to the H2O. Sigh.

I was able to get home and open the package and sync my Kobo Account.

Inside the Box:
- Kobo Device
- USB Cable
- Booklets (Warranty, Start up, Kobo Reference)

If you own a Kobo before, you can see that the Aura One is the accumulation of all of previous Kobo successful designs.

The Aura One design is much lighter and more refined than my previous chunkier Aura HD reader.

There is no longer a physical sleep button. All the light settings are handled by the software.

Out of the 8 GB of storage about 6.8 GB is available.

If you have the light settings set to automatic, the light will stay on even if you are in a room with bright lights. I wonder if the battery will drain faster with the auto mode. You can switch the light settings to manual and change the light settings yourself.

Minor changes with the software. Some sections were removed or rearranged. The books previews are no longer found on the front screen, but under books. The storefront has been removed and replaced other links (Overview, Recommended, Top Picks, Categories, Related Reads).

The following names have been changed:
Library -> Read
Bookstore -> Browse
Extras -> Activity

I didn't buy the Aura One just to read books. No, if I wanted to do that I would stuck with my Kobo Glo.

The primary reason I got the Aura One is to read manga.

I can happily report that the Aura One is the one eReader to read manga! The text boxes are readable now.

Attached are the following photos:

Painful as it may be to do, you need to do a FULL factory reset rather than just signing out and back in. Yes you will have to reload everything, but that will completely reset everything hopefully stop your sleep drain. Mine dropped 1% from this morning when I remembered to mark down what % it was at till a point 10 hours later (and in fairness that might have gone from 63.5 to 63.4 that flipped it from 63 to 62). What you're seeing isn't normal.

Mine is really nice and even top to bottom EXCEPT when I turn up the natural light. If I keep it to near the bottom just to soften the harshness it's great. When I turn the natural light up it becomes somewhat blotchy.

I think the blotchiness is true of my original Aura, which is the last one I purchased. I am mainly a night reader, so I generally have my light turned down as far as it will go to read in the dark.

I've ordered the new Aura One for improved night reading, so I would be fine if the light is blotchy when turned up high.

I guess I'm a "glass half empty" type. but so far the only negatives are 1) very slow to recognize a touch when typing & I type real slowly anyway & 2) although the texture on the back is great for griping it is slippery when placed on anything smooth that is at a slight slant.

I have old eyes so I love the larger screen real estate. One question tho; I noticed someone saying that fonts could be added. Can someone tell me how?

A slight correction to RZetlin's post. The Kobo Aura One does have a physical sleep button the same way the Kobo Aura H2O and Glo HD have. I've not owned others, but I suspect that they all had the power button act as a 'sleep' button.

The Aura One is also not the first of the Kobo line to ditch the on/off for the light, I believe that was the H2O.

However I agree with the essence of what was said, the Aura One feels like Kobo has taken what they learned and put it to good use.

The screen is darker. But the light is brigher. It was late when I posted it!

In a dark room (i.e. bedroom), I find the H2O is impossible to read (unless I put the night mode on, which gives me a black background instead of the white one). The lowest I can put the light is 7% without losing too much contrast. And that's too bright when reading in a dark bedroom for me.

The One I had at 1%, but with the Natural Light on, it wasn't as blinding and it didn't burn my retinas.

1) I only used the touch when entering my wifi password, but I didn't find it very slow. In this case, I think it's perhaps a matter of expectation.
2) I find the device too thin, I also had some problem propping it up. I will have to find a good cover for it (a simple book cover, like the gecko I have for my H2O)

I am completely enamoured with this device. It is everything I expected it to be and more. That enormous screen is so luxurious! And so sharp! I havn't been this in love with a device since the Voyage. Just took a break from my brand new immersive reading experience to share the love. This is the holy grail of ereaders - maybe it'll make reading cool again! Eeek so happy!!! Not a perfect screen but doesn't distract from the reading experience at all, and the ability to change the warmth of the screen is the best thing since sliced gluten-free bread. For anyone on the fence, go buy one now! This makes the Oasis look like scrap plastic. Yay I love u Kobo *throws roses*

Strange thing, I returned my Aura One yesterday for exchange, and the new one has a completely different night mode : instead of red light at 100 %, the new one offers strictly orange light. Is it a software change ? How is yours ?

Thanks.

Jelly! Mine is red. Blood - red. Like a tequila sunrise. Care to post a photo? May I ask what the problem was with your original Aura One? Mine has a couple of shadows around the border and some not so pretty cones near the LED's at the bottom but otherwise it's beautiful.
