Or maybe I will be able to afford it, but the Voyage will no longer be available; and maybe I won't like the current model.

The fear of thinking that my Kindle might break at a time when I can't replace it, drives me to want to buy one now, while I'm still able to.
If you have the $200 to spend on a spare, just save it. Chances are by the time you need a spare, there will most likely be a new version.

Amazon is starting their Black Friday sales early. In a press release they announced some sale items, including kindles:
Quote:
* Kindle Paperwhite, $99.99
* $30 off Kindle and Kindle for Kids Bundle
* Fire, $34.99
(No mention of any new models coming during the sale. )

You're absolutely right. I also was thinking of getting a backup Voyage and when they went on sale I decided to wait, too. I think Michael Kowslowski owes us each $30. If that's also true of others maybe we can band together and file a class action lawsuit.

That's all very sensible and logical but you're talking to gadget lovers and what has logic to do with us?

But what good is a gadget you won't be using and when you do go to use it, it will be outdated with a new model you'd rather have? It's not good. I bought a nook STR as a spare because it was only about $20. Otherwise, I would not have bought it. Now I have the nook STR, 650 (needs a battery replacement), T1, and H2O.

He would just do crowd funding to pay the fees. With flexible funding.

You missed my point. I'm in the USA and can have one here tomorrow if I want.

I was saying that my disappointment comes from blowing my chance to get it for $30 less. Amazon had them on sale (for Prime members) right around the time I was planning to order, but I purposely held off because I thought a new version might be released (just in case I wanted that one instead).

But by the time I realized the rumor wasn't true, the sale was over and I'd missed my chance to get it at sale price.

Yes, but what if I don't like the version that's out 5 or 10 years from now? I've been noticing this a lot lately...that once a device (and even apps for that matter) is improved to the point where there's practically nothing left to improve, that's when they start changing things just for the sake of change. And those kind of changes often just end up spoiling things.

Just saying, that's been my experience lately. With devices, but especially with apps. A lot of the apps I use, I won't even update anymore. They were developed to perfection, but the developers still feel the need to push out new updates. So now they're removing features, or making them more complicated, and ruining the simplicity of them.

My point was that I'm happy with the current model the way it is now and I don't want one that's different from the one I have.

Its not worth stressing over. Once you are old and cant throw around 200 bucks anymore you probably will also be too old to really enjoy much anymore including reading. Almost every old person i come across seem to follow pretty much the same pattern. There are exceptions of course(william shater and dick van dyke are still enjoying lifebto its fullest) but not many old people are reading like mad by the end of their lives.(or doing anything except sitting and watching tv) Most people just lose their drive and motivations as they age.

I think you are good buying one reader at a time. Lol

Young man,
You obviously don't know many old folks. All I know are reading more because of ereaders and the ability to change the font.
PS: I figure the 1988 is your birth year.

I wish i was born in 88. Lol. Thats my graduation year. Still youngish but old enough to know that people change not only physically but mentally as well when we age. Sure many are reading more now but most are not. At least not as voraciously as younger people.

There is a sort-of $30 off deal on Voyage, I believe it is ongoing: the Kindle Voyage Essentials Bundle, which includes leather cover and charger. But if you don't need a charger, or a cover, it isn't saving anything.
