Tomorrow, 19 November, is the 8th anniversary of the launch of the Kindle.
A lot of us think that Amazon might have waited to launch the new Kindle on the anniversary. It's just about the only good reason that Amazon might have waited this late in the year to launch a new model. |

You know if one didn't haunt forums and certain blogs, they wouldn't have a clue or idea something new is coming.

My disappointment happened a few weeks ago, when I realized there was only one source for the rumor, so it couldn't be true.
But my disappointment isn't because the Voyage isn't being upgraded. I already have a Voyage and I'm very happy with it just the way it is. My disappointment is because I had decided to buy a second one, as a backup, in case my current one breaks or something. I could've gotten one for $30 off during Amazon's sale, but instead I chose to wait for this supposed 2nd version. By the time I realized the rumor wasn't true, the sale was over, and I'd blown my chance to get a nice discount. That's why I'm disappointment. . |

I'm actually really bummed that I blew that chance. Does anyone think the Voyage will go on sale again around the Christmas holidays?

I didn't see it as very likely, either, but that was about the only day in November that Amazon might launch a new Kindle.

Wouldn't it be more sensible to buy a spare one if your current one breaks, rather than spending $200 for something that in all likelihood you'll never need?

I've always upgraded my devices when new versions come out. But the older I get, the closer I am to approaching a time when I might not be able to afford to plunk down $200 whenever I feel like it. Or maybe I will be able to afford it, but the Voyage will no longer be available; and maybe I won't like the current model. The fear of thinking that my Kindle might break at a time when I can't replace it, drives me to want to buy one now, while I'm still able to. I've always had that fear, but until now, there's always been new features that I hoped for in future Kindles, so I've never felt "finished". However, the Voyage is the first Kindle that I'm completely satisfied with and have no more need to upgrade. So if I had more than one Voyage, I could happily live the rest of my life without ever needing to buy another Kindle. ![]() |

Hmm. I just now did the math and realized that even if each one lasted 10 yrs, that would still fall far short of the end of my life, so now I'm thinking I'll need 2 or 3 backups. LoL
![]() EDIT: I need about 30 to 40 more yrs worth of Kindles to survive. Last edited by Vmurph; 11-18-2015 at 04:21 PM. |

In my case, if my KPW1 (hitting exactly three years at december 12, this year) gets stolen or breaks on route to work, I can have a new KPW3, Voyage, or any Kobo reader I want that very same day if I take some leave and go get it, and if I don't want to do that, I'll have my replacement between 1 and 3 working days depending on where I order it. Even though I really prefer an e-ink screen at this point, I can always read either on my tablet, or my phone while waiting for the replacement to arrive. Also, e-readers will become cheaper and cheaper. I've seen discounts for some readers that brought them down to less than €50. I've paid €400 for my first reader, and took a loss of over €150 when I sold it a few months later, due to dissatisfaction with availability of ebooks (and quality, with the ones that were available). Now, the Voyage is a high-end reader. In 5-6 years, such a reader will probably the basic model. Last edited by Katsunami; 11-18-2015 at 05:08 PM. |
