I am wondering if its possible to choose or change where a book sits in your Calibre library? I have so many books in my Calibre I often forget I have certain books until I come across it again while looking for something else. I would like to be able to easily move that rediscovered book to the top of my Calibre library so I remember it is there. Is this possible please? |

I know I can always delete the book from Calibre and then re-add it, which would put it at the top if I had it sorted by date, but thats an long-winded way to go about doing it. I thought maybe there was an easier way to change a books position in the library order. I guess making a reading list would be an option, although its not really what I want to do.

Add a "Favourites" column and sort by that.

 - might also be useful to have a "Notable Books" virtual library (I have something similar for frequently accessed "Reference Books") BR

Ok, so I have created the column Favourites, but how do I make a certain book a Favourite, especially in Cover View? I had hoped it would be as simple as click and dragging the title to the top, but that doesnt work. I have worked out how to use the Yes/No marker in list view. Its better than no option, I guess but not as staight-forward as I would have liked. I cant see how to use the feature in Cover View at all which further limits it usability for me. @Chapter One - if you don't have Mark Books in the Main Toolbar then use Preferences->Toolbars to add it to the tool bar. Now browse your library and Mark the "Favourite" books (ctrl+M - note this is a toggle). When you're done use the Show Marked Books option (ctrl/shift+M) to list the Marked books, select all the marked books (ctrl+a) and use Bulk Metadata Edit (E) to update the Favourites column. Important : The Marks are transient, i.e. they will disappear automatically when you close calibre. There's also a Clear All Marked Books option in the Mark Books drop down menu. BR Bulk mode metadata edit is also E. The difference is multiple books selected. M is merge 2 book records into one. The proper use is the SAME book, just different formats |

if you just want to have it to be at the top of when sorting by date, you could just open the metadata editor. Just look for the Date: entry and make the date to a future date and the book will stay on top.

You could also just create a tag. Advantage -- you can drag books onto a tag in the tag browser. Then do a search for books with the tag. |

@eschwartz - dystopia was precisely what I meant, at the time of the original post I was listening to a Yanis Varoufakis rant. Guaranteed to make ones concentration lapse whilst throwing metaphorical rotten eggs. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 07-05-2015 at 05:56 AM. |
