Uploading Books to K Fire -- Calibre says Books Transferred -- But Books Not There
Hi!
I'm having a problem that I can't seem to solve. Please let me know if you need additional information. ------------------------------- Calibre ver 1.2 running on Win7 Kindle Fire 1 System ver 6.3.2_user_4110520 -------------------------------- Here's my process
In Calibre, if I go to Device --> Show books in Main Memory of the device, -- The book(s) I just transferred show up and I'm able to open them in the Calibre viewer On my computer, if I open a Folder to the Kindle Device (H: ) Drive and look in the folder called Documents, -- The book(s) I just transferred show up as both an .APNX and .MOBI file BUT when I try to find the book on my Kindle Fire device, it's not there on either the carousel or under Documents. I check under every section -- nada. ------------------------- I have tried removing the Kindle device from Calibre and re-adding/reconfiguring it -- several times I'm using the latest version of Calibre, but I had this issue on the last version as well I have been able to send books to the Kindle Fire with earlier versions of Calibre with no problems. I only noticed it with the last 2 version of Calibre that I had installed. I am able to email books to my Kindle with no issues. I am able to transfer documents such as PPT presentations via USB with no issues. -------------------------- I did notice that Win7 brings up a dialog box every time I connect my device asking Do you want to scan and fix Kindle (H ![]() "There might be a problem with some files on this device or disc. This can happen if you remove the device or disc before all files have been written to it." --> Scan and fix --> Continue without scanning I always choose Continue without scanning because I've been assuming that Win7 has no idea what the data on a Kindle Fire is supposed to look like ... I know it's a computer, but it's using a different OS and I didn't want to take any risks. ---------------------------- I'm not sure what else to try at this point. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Last edited by MyKindleGoodies; 09-08-2013 at 03:39 PM. Reason: clarity |

Just as an FYI, I don't have a Kindle Fire HD. I have a Kindle Fire 1 (the very first Fire shipped).
Books that are sent over to my Kindle Fire are being sent as .APNX & .MOBI files. BUT... I checked and books that I email to my Kindle come over as .MBP and .PRC formats and books that come directly from Amazon are also in .MBP and .PRC formats. I don't have any .AWZ files on my Kindle at all -- maybe that's a change for the newer HD version. Thanks! ![]() Last edited by MyKindleGoodies; 09-08-2013 at 04:11 PM. Reason: clarity |

All calibre does is copy files to the device. Once that is done, it is up to the device to find and open them. It may be that your device is having issues witha particular file, so I would try the following
1) reboot the device 2) if that does not work, delete all files from the device, and send them back one by one until you come to the problem file. |

Kovid:
Thanks. Can you tell me what file types/extensions that Calibre sends to a Kindle Fire (1st model shipped) by default? I send .MOBI books to my device from my HDD via email and when I look in the folders on my Kindle Fire, they are showing up as .MBP and .PRC files with names such as OUU3HZ65CIZQZKHIVTUUHS2UVPBPN6CI_PDOC. Books that are sent to my device directly from Amazon are also in .MBP and .PRC formats. When books come over from Calibre, they come over as .APNX & .MOBI and their Book Names that have been set up in Calibre are intact (which I much prefer). Is there something in Calibre's configuration that I have set up wrong? I'll remove the books that I had Calibre send over when I noticed they weren't being seen. If someone can verify the file types that are supposed to be sent over from Calibre, I'd appreciate it! |

MOBI and PRC are the same thing. The Kindle Fire most definitely supports MOBI files.

Well -- I did some further research and discovered this post
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=141722 The important thing I found in that post was that *.MOBI files can be renamed *.PRC and the Kindle Fire device should be able to read it. Sooooooooooo -- I tested it. I went into my Kindle folder and renamed a book title sent over from Calibre from .MOBI to .PRC The device now recognizes that the book is in the Main memory where it ignored it before. I can read the book and the cover shows up, etc. I don't know if this information is going to be of any use to anyone else -- but I thought I'd share what I'd discovered. I'm still going to delete books from the Kindle as Kovid recommends and add them back and see if there's a "problem child" causing all this mayhem. But at least I found a workaround in the meantime. ![]() |

Thanks so much (that was really bothering me) -- I just ran the scan and windows found no errors! At least I know that it's OK to run that if it comes up again. ![]() As a note, I got this message the first time I tried it: Windows can't check the disk while it's in use Do you want to dismount this volume first? Note: All opened handles to this volume will become invalid. --> Force a dismount --> Cancel SOLUTION: For anyone else that is getting this and you aren't sure what to do: Close out of Calibre, disconnect your USB cable and then reconnect it again. When the "Run Scan" option comes up this time you will be able to run the Disk Scan without the above scary message. ![]() |
