Yes you can buy them from the store for other android devices, like a phone or a Samsung tablet.

Well, I found there are many free apps on Google Play that does apk extract. Installed an apk extracter, had it extract the 3 ereaders' apk, sent them to the Fire HDX 8.9 & then installed them. All working fine.

Nice & easy; was even willing to pay for them for the kindle as it was a "different" platform but now think "platform" will refer to a different basic OS. For "kicks" will see if I can get the kindle specific collins dictionary working on non-kindle androids.......

ES File Explorer will do it all for you. It's a must have on any Android device. You can back up apps to apk or you can just send the app using the send command and it will send it as a apk.

Under Library in ES File Explorer there is APP option where you can back up locally to a apk or you can send a apk. Just have ES File Explorer open on both devices to use the send command you can do this for files and folders too.

Note: You can't backup paid Google Play apps on Android 4 and up but you can Amazon Paid apps.

I'm an idiot and would appreciate any help or elucidation, because I'm screwing something up. I've got the Mantano and Cool Reader apps from the Amazon store on my Nexus 7 and tried this, but the Nexus didn't seem to see the Fire 6. I had File Explorer open on both devices. What have I missed? It could be something ridiculously obvious, because as I said, I'm an idiot.

Unless I can read epubs on the Fire, it won't be the do-all device I'd hoped it would be. My library is overwhelmingly epub and while I could convert, that seems like a lot of trouble and the results won't be as good as being able to use Mantano or Cool Reader.

Make sure both apps are open on both devices when it goes send it will scan for devices you will see devices listed that have ES File explorer app open. Select it and then it will send it and on the other device it was ask you to confirm before it sends it so have both devices in your lap with the app open and it should work. You want the Send command not share, not LAN.

Make sure WiFi is on both devices too! If you still having problems check with the file version of ES File Explorer on your KF6 make sure it's the latest and has the send command. I recommend using the ES File Explorer downloaded straight from developer's site.

Thanks for the info. Wasn't able to find the app backup on ES FS earlier; got it to work on a couple of items.

Will need to keep a copy of apk extracter as I wasn't able to backup the paid "System Panel" app on Nexus 7; the apk extracter was able to do it. Don't think "SystemPanel" is a Google Play app even tho it was purchased on the Google Play Store. May not need it as ES Task Manager look like being able to do the same things.

I'm not sure why people are having to jump through hoops to install Moon + Reader on their Fires - I just installed it directly onto my HD 6 from the 1 mobile App store. I also had no problem installing Calibre Companion from the Amazon App store, which I guess some people are also having problems with. Is my device special somehow? It's not rooted or jailbroken or anything like that, so why am I able to install these apps that others are having problems with?

Moon+ Reader Pro is a paid app only available at Google Play, Amazon App Store. The Paid version does so much more than the free version. You can Sync and back up to the Cloud for one which the free version doesn't allow and of course no ads there are many other added features.

Calibre Companion is available on the Kindle Fire but Moon+ Pro and Mantano are not and must be sideloaded.

Additional benefits in pro version:
  • Ad-free
  • Shake the phone to speak (TTS engine support)
  • PDF support, fast & speech compatible
  • More beautiful backgrounds, fonts and reader themes
  • Multi-point touch support
  • Option for password protection at startup
  • Headset & Bluetooth keys control
  • Book to home screen shortcut
  • Customize reader bar function
  • Annotations, highlights & bookmarks share support
  • Reading statistics function
  • Sync/Backup/Download/Upload book files via Dropbox or Gdrive
  • Widget shelf support, group your favorite books, put them to desktop as widget
  • Customer email support

It's great for sideloading apps because you don't have to back them up first. Just go to app manager check the apps and click send and it sends the app to the other device.
Hi Blossom

I tried doing this, has ES File Explorer open on both devices (Samsung Tablet and Fire HD6). The Fire HD 6 did not show up on the Samsung Tablet to allow me to transfer.

Also, has anyone gotten YouTube to work on the Fire?

It will be the only device listed in the list. It wont say Kindle Fire. It will say something like KFARWI with numbers or something like that. If not showing up hit refresh so it can scan again for the device.

Thanks. That was it. Showed up as KFARWI

Do you know if anyone has gotten You Tube to work with the Fire? If not what do you use?
