Good for you; I do the same thing. No kid wants to spend an hour or two on Christmas morning prepping their present before they can use it. That thing needs to be ready to go right out of the box.

I've just got my Fire HD and i'm really confused (and a bit disapointed tbh) i've posted my queries in another thread titled
Personal Documents cover view in All Docs list query but I forgot to mention it was for a HD 6, so if anyone can help i'd be grateful. |

I'm not well at the moment, I have bronchitis so perhaps I am more emotional that usual but the Kindle Fire HD6 has reduced me to tears in less than an hour.
I guess I should put it to one side and look at it tomorrow. I am gutted and bitterly disapointed. |

It probably is a bit of a shock that Amazon treats docs like the red-headed step-children on their tablets. But I also think that compared to their e-ink readers they know the tabs will be used in offices and such and there is a legitimate need to have the documents (books and docs we upload to Amazon or side load) separate for that reason. Nevertheless, my personal docs/books do show up in my collections even though they don't look as pretty without their covers. I don't think Amazon is being nefarious, just like their ereaders don't have encryption and their tabs do, it is covering different use cases.
BTW if it troubles you I would contact Amazon and complain. They actually do listen to their customers. Years ago I requested that they add night mode to their reading background choices, and we have that. I also suggested years ago that Amazon put out their own video streaming device. Man they should be paying me for these ideas :-) Last edited by conan50; 10-29-2014 at 01:13 PM. |

Josie, if you use CC, they display as books with the covers.

I am sorry that you are unhappy with your hd6. I get most of my books from kindle unlimited so I don't mess with collections. I do get books from other sources, but those are epubs which I have calibre for storing and sorting. I hope that you find a good solution to your problem.
I received my hd6 today and so far, it's great for my needs. The first thing that I did was install ES File Explorer and added Google Drive and Dropbox to the ES cloud. Then I install installed 1 mobile market, and mantano premium. Between 1 mobile and Amazon apps, I am satisfied with the available apps. I did also install SwiftKey keyboard to replace the default one. The size is great. I do find it heavier than expected but it's not too bad. It's lighter than my book hd+. I am going to have to sew a cover with a handle. |

There is no Grid View in the Docs panel. Likewise there is no List View when you are viewing a Collection.
The Android Kindle app does both of these things, and you can Add and Remove an item's Collection membership anywhere you find it, and you have Sort options in the Collections. And it tells you how many items are in each collection, and shows %read on the items in the collection. But let's turn to the positive...: My favorite new feature on the Fire is the ability to Share selected text with any app that registers for Sharing. Yes, just like you might expect of a real mobile app. So, for example, you can save a highlight directly to Evernote or email, not just Goodreads/FB/Twitter. Unfortunately you cannot do that with Personal Documents, but there are workarounds (e.g. highlight, capture screen, share the image with Evernote, which will index the text to make it searchable). |

I've had to order an anti glare screen protector for my Fire 6. Good news is that it was only $6 for a pack of three. Bad news is I already spent $30 for a reusable screen protector that I won't need if the AG one is satisfactory. Maybe I can return it.
ETA yes I can and am returning the reusable one. Really GREAT screen protector. But I need anti-glare. Last edited by booklover6; 10-30-2014 at 07:37 AM. |
