That should definitely protect it against drops. Nice that they made the matching colors.

Amazon got me with the five payment plan and the colors. I had Best Buy certificates to use, but I'll save those for video games.

With a case like that the Fire HD 6 Tab would be unbreakable :-)

I can't explain why this is happening.

I load some epubs via Calibre Companion. Later I notice that many of the covers appear under Books, on device. Tapping a cover, will open the book in the Kindle reading app. But they were side loaded epubs! Why would this occur?

Make sure your epubs are not in the books or documents folder. I put all my sideloaded epubs in a folder called epubs.

I have to ask are these epubs readable in the Kindle app?

Yes, that is what is so amazing! I am not sure what is going on. I don't know what folder CC put them in, I'll have to see if I can track that down, and see if they got converted? They still open as epubs in Moon+.

Some of the covers show in the Carousel normally, some show as blank covers.

OK - they are in the sdcard/Books/ folder. That folder contains the three books that come with MoonReader, the hundreds of epubs that CC sent, and folders containing the books that I opened with the Kindle app, which are titled as such:

Title - author (calibre number).azw3.luci

Inside this folder is a bunch of gibberish. (i.e. no clearly defined book file)

Also in this sdcard/books/ folder is a "Sidecars" folder. Inside it is full of the long coded file names that are familiar when you look at the "My Kindle Content" folder on your PC. Open one of the folders and there is a file that starts with amzn1.account.AFxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (i.e. long string of numbers/letters)

So yes it is opening side loaded epubs in the Kindle app, (performing some sort of conversion on the fly?) and showing up in the Books tab, complete witht eh "About the book" goodreads pop up, and retaining my formatting. The books look damn good!

To open them using MoonReader, I go into CC and tap "read" and it opens as normal (no choice to select the Kindle app).

Pretty fantastic stuff!

Maybe Amazon silently added epub support?

It sure sounds like it! Can anyone else try to open a epub in the Kindle app to confirm this?

Has anyone else tried Eumie's method from Android Cowboy's site?

Couple of questions:

I have a Samsung Note 8. Am trying to copy some of my apps from there to the Fire 6. I have purchased the Calibre Companion app, Moon + Pro and Mantano. I have tried using ES File Explorer to backup or copy and it fails. Also tried WiFi File Explorer. No luck. Will I have to repurchase through Amazon?

Also has anyone been able to import their bookmarks into the Silk Browser? I can't seem to find settings to import.

This is a problem inherent in the more recent versions of Android (someone with more technical expertise can explain it - I'm not even going to try). I keep my old Gingerbread phone just to be able to port my paid apps to newer devices via Dropbox.

ETA: It's been since Jelly Bean and is called "forward locking". More info here if you're interested.

OK. Found this app that enabled me to backup those app.

ApkShare by NewPower Studios

Will probably wait a bit before installing them. It looks like some app are not yet compatible with the 6.

See my response post #342. I found an app to copy the apk file.

I get the feeling she doesn't like it. She kept pushing the HDX which to me has issues and was bad for reading with that ugly blue border. She didn't even compare it to last year's HD model at all.

I saw this on the side while watching and turns out it's Nathan's review and shows alot more.

OTG & alternative launchers

I haven't seen any reviews anywhere mentioning that the Fire HD 6 is apparently OTG enabled. Never got this to work on my 8.9 even when I put a ROM on it. I was able to expand the storage of the HD 6 with the small micro usb flash drive I bought for my phone without needing any special apps to do so. It will be good to have a larger supply of offline media to use with this little tablet when out & about.

I've also noticed that different third-party launchers like Nova Launcher and such work on this tablet. Widgets and icon packs work as well. Still can't set a wallpaper, but if one gets bored of Amazon's launcher, at least you can get a different look.
