Mini Firmware 3.4.1 - Released for Mini

I upgraded my Mini from firmware 2.8.1 to 3.4.1 and first was quite impressed. But still basic features for a reading device are missing completely (e.g. turning 10 pages at a time when searching for a location in the book and remembering the contents but not the wording of that location; the navigation slider is far too unprecise to do that in a 500 pages book) or are horribly buggy (e.g. "Search in Book": The result list is not even sorted).

Why? How to custom font. I need Chinese fonts.

Did the fonts work before the upgrade? If so, I find it a bit odd since I just upgraded one of my niece's Mini to 3.4.1. Her custom fonts are still working after the upgrade.

You might want to check the custom fonts sticky https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=204363 for some help.

Basically, there are three items to check.

1. The fonts folder is in the root of the internal storage (the only storage for a Mini and is called "fonts" all in lower case.

2. The font file names must match for the internal font names. Quite a few font file names have no relationship to the internal font name. See the sticky for the font variant naming convention used by Kobo. On a Windows machine, you can use the Windows Font Viewer and check the Font Name line to see what the font file name should be.

3. After adding the fonts, you MUST reset your Mini -- power off/on, pinhole reset -- before trying to use the fonts.

Hi David,
Thanks for your great messages.
I have repaired my addtional fonts problem.


But if i have put some fonts beyond 20M, it always appears system halted.
Because i need one large font file, the Chinese font is old writing style, OTF font file is 54.4M, i very like it. IF i put into kindle touch or kindle 4, it is OK.

When i setup the Epub file Aa function, the system is no respone font effection OR the screen is current interface menu OR original font style.

Another way,i use koreader, the problem is same. The system halted.
Only power off three times for slide button.


How to setup each time the system directly run into KBmenu?====I have found it =scripts function=====. If i have setup always KBMenu,the system is run fast.OKOK!GOOD!

Hi, does this new fw brings full screen reading on mini? Also can someone post a screenshot of the new home screen? I understand I could try by myself but I am bit reluctant to make all the settings again (night mode, koreader, kbmenu + scripts, coolreader, custom fonts and dict etc.) unless I find it worthy enough... Thanks in advance.

There is an optional full-screen mode you can enable in the conf. file. Let me fire up a mini and see what I can get for you as far as screen shots go....

I like that, being able to turn it on and off. I am going to have to find that. Is it in the config file for 3.4.1? Is the setting only available for the Mini?

Full Screen mode option availability is done via the .kobo\Kobo\Kobo eReader.conf file. Edit this with an editor that understands Unix style end-of-line conventions (ie with Windows use Notepad++).

Look for a section [FeatureSettings]. If one does not exist, add the line

[FeatureSettings]

to the file. In either case add within that section the line

FullScreenReading=true

This option is available for ALL devices, but the Reading Settings menu might look malformed on some devices.
