Magic sounds better with wand. Maybe because we're so familiar with the phrase. Magic sounds better with lamp and carpet, too.
But I like magical with amulet. Maybe because of the three syllables, maybe because of the repeating "L" sound.
Magical also sounds better with "creatures" and "Mystery Tour."

Although I associate "magical" with the sensation evoked in the observer, I still see it as a synonym for "magic," when used well. In this case, like ApK, I like the way it scans, too.

So do I, though I might be a little biased.

Have you considered aiming this at a slightly older age group, or as a story to be read to children by parents? If you choose the latter, remember that many adults have limited vocabularies and don't know what words like 'amulet' mean. But these are not the type of people who would buy books for their children.

Well, ApK knows my love of alliteration, which is probably why I unconsciously chose magical.

It is aimed at parents to read to their children, or for more advanced children to read for themselves. It will be illustrated.

I feel like Achilles and the tortoise. each step gets me closer to being finished with this story, but I feel like I'm never going to get there. *sigh*

It often feels like that when you head to the finish line of a book, especially after several drafts.

You know, that paradox was resolved quickly when Achilles overtook and crushed the tortoise under his foot. That tortoise really had an Achilles heel. That must be where that term comes from...
