Bulk Metadata Edit only offers Title Case, which you could argue demonstrates a bias towards the Anglosphere - but that's true of most internetty stuff. It's something others are expected to tolerate, along with various Anglospherical misdeeds

Polish is what you do to something you already HAVE.
With Polish, You refresh the finish(ed product)

bulk metadata edit search & replace has four of the five case conversion functions you mention.

True - including "Title Case", which is also offered on the Basic Metadata panel.

From it's presence there one could argue that this demonstrates a anti Anglosphere cultural bias, in that it infers that people whose mother tongue is English are incapable of understanding "...an arbitrary python-compatible regular expression... can contain backreferences to parenthesized expressions in the pattern". Whereas people whose mother tongue is otherwise can understand "...il testo da cercare, una qualsiasi espressions regoe supporta da python... etc". Maybe it's so - can you point me to the empirical evidence

Most people I know can no more write regular expressions than they can enumerate a set of Latin verb declensions

It demonstrates only that your assertion that the other case change operations were not in bulk metadata update was false. Also, there is no need to write regular expressions, as shown by the attached screen capture.

As for inferring pro or con "Anglosphere cultural bias", je n'en sais rien. Vos allégations sont trop subtiles pour moi.

do not be offended but I did not understand anything, and what little I have understood is that you're using big words unnecessarily If you feel like it can you explain me step by step what to do, perhaps with the help of some pictures? I think it would be helpful to me and to many others.

And I request you, can I import the books with calibre but read the file names and not the metadata content? If it were possible I would not have the need to convert anything

@chaley - at the top of your attachment there is first a warning that Search and replace can destroy a library, this followed by a long paragraph that most non CompSci graduates cannot comprehend - hence they 'move on'.

Don't you think it would make more sense and be more consistent if the Case Change drop down button was available on the Basic metadata panel - it would also remove any perceived hint of cultural bias.

@Lauraq - yes you can do that quite easily - go to Preferences->Add Books, see the attachment

The settings you may need to 'adjust' are those I've highlighted

There are preconfigured regular expressions you can use - click the little down arrow at the right end of the regular expression field to see the others.

I use the one shown - and you can see that I've entered a test file name and clicked the test button

Fantastic! The conversion isn't necessary now

But I have a last problem, the files that I have have first the titel and after the author, for example:

Colorado Kid - King Stephen

and your string import the name in the title field and the title in the name field. I have reverse the string to

(?P<title>[^_].+) - (?P<author>.+)

but don't work

EDIT

or tell me (and is better!!!) what setting do you have used for rename the files in "author - title" mode, but I want first the surname, for example

King Stephen - Danse macabre

which is exactly the order that I would get, in calibre and the files in the folders, if you solve this problem you solved 90% of my problems with Calibre

Yes, I did, but I don't think I'm the best person to advise you on the first/last name aspect of Calibre. I use the default settings - on the basis that when I started with Calibre it seemed easier to adjust me than it was to adjust calibre.

But calibre can probably do what what you want with names - but I admit to finding it all rather confusing and somewhat esoteric. Hopefully someone can help you - DoctorOhh comes to mind.

I too use the standard calibre FN LN for author and LN, FN for author_sort. There is a section of the calibre manual that speaks directly to using LN, FN for both author and author_sort.

in fact to me it looks like a complicated program, however, thanks to you and all those who helped me, I'm beginning to understand more
