Aura HD - Computer connection problems

After getting my 3rd bad aura I today decided to give the HD a try. My experience however has so far been even worse than the aura even if the screen looks fine. My issues relate to connecting it to my computer and it is behaving very strangely, including: - Not mounting on my mac when I plug in the USB (there is no prompt to connect to a computer. - If I then reboot (with the aura unplugged) it then prompts me to connect to a computer even though it is not plugged into anything! - If I then plug in the usb it does finally mount. - When I eject the reader it does disappear from my computer however the 'connected and charging' message remains on the reader. Forcing me to switch it off and back on again. - When I do switch it back on I once again get the 'Computer detected' prompt even though it is not plugged in. - Lastly I have tried adding books via ADE, Calibre and copy/paste from finder and whilst they are on the device each time the reader itself cannot see them. Apart from that it is working flawlessly! Any ideas? |

Did you put your files in a folder under .kobo? Or in .kobo itself? If you add files to the kobo device and they are not in a hidden (.name) folder, you should see the kobo processing the added media. If you do not see a message to that effect, power off the device and restart it, you should then see the processing media message. Luck; Ken PS; I prefer to use the add on alternative reading programs, set to read hidden files/folders and avoid the processing altogether. Last edited by Ken Maltby; 10-05-2013 at 01:43 PM. |

			- When I eject the reader it does disappear from my computer however the 'connected and charging' message remains on the reader. Forcing me to switch it off and back on again. for this maybe you need to wait a bit more, it doesn't immediately go away after you eject, especially if it needs to process stuffs (new books, new firmware, etc). At least, that's what happens to me sometimes, I wait a while and then it goes away, updates and works. I don't know about the other things, I used the kobo software only when updating the firmware and to sign in the first time, the rest is done with calibre. |

You are unplugging the cable I hope? Until the cable IS removed the "connected and charging" screen will remain. And at times I do have to wait for up to a minute before the screen changes from that to the "processing" screen, and then the home screen. |

Yes I am unplugging the cable and did leave it for several minutes. Likewise when I plug it in I give it a long time for the 'computer detected' prompt to display but it never does. It does display though everytime I power the reader off then on irrespective of whether it is plugged in or not. Very strange, I can feel another trip to WHS coming on. |

I hope you haven't been doing all this with the shipping screen cover in place, as it is in your photo. Luck; Ken |

With the tab still on, the whole bottom part of the cover is draped across the IR path. It could cause their to be events for the touchscreen or other issues. In any case, for anyone who IS having problems, it is an obvious potential complication to be eliminated. Luck; Ken |

Took the HD back today, no more HDs so got another aura, fine other than 2 pin pricks. I have come to the conclusion that I am unlikely to get a perfect kobo any time soon so as I prefer the interface, device ergonomics and customisation vs kindle I think I have to accept the compromises. | |
