I cancelled my pre-order. I really doubt I would use an eInk enough to justify taking a chance on the lighted screen. I rarely use my Kindle Touch as I find reading much more enjoyable on my iPhone and iPad. Maybe I'll reconsider after I read the MR reviews from those who got bad screens last year with the PW1. But for now I'm officially passing on the PW2.

I'm not pre-ordering for three reasons. Firstly, it's not that compelling an improvement over last year's Paperwhite: secondly, I have a three-year warranty on my existing PW which as far as I can see I cannot carry over: and thirdly, and most importantly, the new PW would come with new firmware, and unless they have finally at long bloody last added hyphenation it's a strict downgrade over the PW1 with JBPatch. But we've been asking for hyphenation for many years and they have never bothered, so it's not likely to happen this time round either.

The Aura is much better than its predecessor but the PW2 isn't that huge an improvement. Besides with pinhole light leak reports with the Aura already and I am sure there will be something with the PW2 it may just be wise to wait for all the first adopters to weed out the problems. Especially if one is receiving these things by mail. Different story though if we could get them at the local store.

I have two pinholes on my PW1 but they so tiny you can't see them unless you go looking. Now others here have gotten pinholes that were much more noticeable and had to exchange their PW1.

Yup. Several people reporting of them already. Its one of the reasons why I have stayed away from the lighted readers. I had thought Kobo was a bit better on it but I guess I was wrong.(though I believe the Aura Hd and Glo had fewer issues than Nook Glo and PW1) Going to stay away from the lighted ones for now and see what happens.

Apparently, the non-gloss fixture on the new Aura also brings a sort of pattern on the display which makes it difficult to read under sunlight..... see here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=129 If there is one thing that the Kindle always delivered, that was very good reading conditions for reading outside, at the beach, in the sunlight and so on. I am using my readers A LOT outside. We have beach weather here 9 months in the year, so it would be catastrophic for me not to be able to read in the sun (which is the reason why as much as I love my phone and tablet, I still need - and use - an e-reader). Re the Aura, I have the Aura HD version and although the design of the back is not my cup of tea, the hardware is pretty much faultless (the software is far, far, far from faultless). It's really a pity if Kobo does not manage to do as well on the new Aura, as they obviously know how to produce good hardware. Last edited by aceflor; 09-19-2013 at 03:22 AM. |

Now I have an ad for the new PW on my PW screen. If only they had put a tiny version of the ad itself on the little PW screen on the ad! Then it could have gone into infinity. Does anyone understand me?? eP |

It's like being in a room with a mirror in front of you and a mirror behind you. When you look in the mirror in front of you, you see a reflection of the mirror behind you, which contains a reflection of the mirror in front of you, which... Well, let's just say it's a recursive reflection.
