I decided...I ordered one. I'd rather have the Kobo Aura, but who knows when that will actually be shipping! With Amazon, no question!

Waaah, I really don't know what to do!!!
Ok, so here goes. I've said similar thing in another thread so if anyone already read it, please don't pay attention. The PW I have is very good, there is no fault about it, no discoloration, no pin holes, no shadow exept bottom (which is normal) It has lower light levers that others I read of, I read at 12 in darkness and 18 to 24 in daylight. With my light sensitive eyes it suits me fine and I enjoy yellow tint it has at night because it doesn't hurt my eyes. I could wish for darker letters as on my PW black is actually dark grey. All in all I like it very much and cannot find anything faulty - except battery doesn't hold as long as I wish. With light high on and reading for several hours (2,3 or more) and changing pages fast with full refresh - how long should battery last? Because mine is for a few days (wifi off) Is that normal? There was a thread on PW battery here but I couldn't find it. Now, I am in a non Amazon country in Europe, meaning I would have to return it to USA, which would cost me I'd imagine 30€, registered. Oh the nerves if it arrives in one piece, if at all, you never know. No import taxes refund so another 20 to 30€ lost. Reorder new one and pray it has no faults, good screen, unknown technology and is not too bright. Sigh. That's why I am on the fence and REALLY don't know what to do. Taking all the above into account is returning REALLY worth it? I cannot wait for first review as I have time till September 21. There are moments when I feel like packing it up and then there are moments when I think it would be really stupid (and costly). Katsunami said already I should keep it and not bother. And firmware will be probably delivered OTA. But if I keep it and everyone starts singing songs of praise how good the new one is I will feel stupid too. I will be kicking myself either way, it is just my character. Anyway guys, thanks for reading my rant ![]() |

No, that is not normal battery life. How many books do you have on it? Sometimes a bad book can drain a battery. I'd say take off all but 2 or 3 and then test the battery with normal use.

Chi Chgni, In your situation I would keep the one you have. You never know maybe next year you can buy the new one and sell on yours. But I wouldn't return it if its going to cost you money.
Edited to say, I said this BEFORE I realised you might have a battery fault. Last edited by Josieb1; 09-16-2013 at 08:56 AM. |

However, if you report it to Amazon as faulty (battery issue maybe) the cost of return should be paid for by Amazon, normally they would send you out a new one the same as you had but you could ask for a refund, or ask if you can have the new one instead.

Thank you Josie and Anne. I may talk to Amazon CS and see. I have 36 books on it, all indexed. I read quite fast, light is on high. What is the expected battery life on average? Not the 30 min a day for 2 months at level 10 because it does not apply to me at all.

Chi Cygni is reading with the wifi off, she should get at least a week I think, but again I've never measured my usage either.

Well, my answer officially is that no, I want my page turn buttons back.
I had a gen 1 Kindle. Now have a K3/Keyboard. I'm really looking into either a Sony T2 (or T3) or a Cybook Odyssey. I don't hate touchscreens. Happily use them on my android smartphone and ipad3. But...on my ebook reader...I prefer not too. Plus when holding the device the right way, I can hold it with my thumb on the button and slight pressure turns the page instead of having to swipe. The frontlit thing...eh, whatever. Having enough light to read has not been an issue for me. Call me old fashioned I guess. So no Kindle Paperwhite for me...at least for now. |

If it comes down to an exchange for another PW1, maybe it would be better to return it after all then and get the new PW2? Amazon would cover costs in that case. Keep us posted on what Amazon says. |
