I don't want to be rude, but please at least search this forum or use Google to learn about the things you don't know before asking them. Launchpad can be found here:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97636
and it is _not_ included in the kindlepdfviewer release ZIPs. What you see in there is only configuration for launchpad.

yes, you are wright, sorry, i found the 2 downloads and installed them both in a folder i called luanchpad.ini

I made a newsstart from the kindle, I ejected it before.

Then copied the folder customupdate with the zip inside in the main root.

I tried to tip in the shift, shift, 1, but nothing happend.

Then I tried to eject the kindle, made a newstart and tried to tip it, nothing happend again and there is no kindlepdfviewer" folder on my kindle.

Something does not work, but what? Sorry, but i do not knopw anybody else, to ask this.

What is my fault?

Which is the right moment to tip it in, just after havon copied the files or when else? newstart necessary or not?

I have a kindle 3, which is supported by some advertising, could this be a reason?

When I send some new books on the kindle to my collections i always have to make a new start, otherwise they are not included in my collections.

I hope i can get it today because i go on vacations and I have so many Pdfs...

I have seen, i cannot update my kindle, i cannot push this menue? It is grey and i cannot use it.

please read the instruction carefully:

To install:
- unpack the attached lpad-pkg-xxx.zip archive somewhere
- select the Kindle update package for your device model and copy it to your device under user root directory [/mnt/us]
- apply the standard Amazon Kindle update procedure

That means you only need to download lpad-pkg-xxx.zip.

The whole procedure likes jailbreak a lot.

For the update button to be enabled, you need to have a update .bin file signed with an installed key. Because we cannot sign update packages using the official amazon key, we use our own "jailbreak" key.

You need an update package signed for your kindle model, and you need the jailbreak key installed. When things do not work, it is a good idea to reboot and try again. Some procedures require two reboots to work (one to install a payload, and another to run the payload).

For a Kindle 3, there are DIFFERENT update packages depending on your firmware versions. For firmware version 3.3, be sure to use update packages for firmware 3.2.1 and later, or the update button will not be enabled.

i made meanwhile 3 reboots, nothing changed.

I took the jailbreak from here:

everything worked, (only thecolelctions thing I wrote did not work 100 %, but was o.k.).

I do not know, when the updating button begun to stay grey, sorry.

Now, I looked on board for the update package fitting to me, but did not found one. I do not want to riun more, than i have perhaps...

I have the kindlel 3.2.1, Wifi. B008.AGAO ...

Could you give me an advice where I find the update package or shall I start to remove first the jailbreak- if it is possiblel?

Looks like NiLuJe's jailbreak, v0.9. I think it should work with launchpad, although it is not the most current version of the jailbreak.

So let's make a few things sure:
- you did extract the "update_launchpad_0.0.1c_k3w_install.bin" from launchpad's ZIP archive?
- you did put it in the top level of the disk drive the Kindle presents when plugged into the PC?
- there is no other update... file in that top level directory?

and "update" in the settings menu is still grayed out?

Just for orientation: This isn't really a kindlepdfviewer problem but rather jailbreak/launchpad related.

PS: That thing with your son is a pity. I was in a school where there was violence and even weapons for two years. I couldn't even express the terrors to my parents, I think. But it was only two years. Those _do_ leave marks, however, so listen to your son carefully.

The newest is v0.10. This may confuse some people who think that v0.9 is newer tha v0.10. Use the one that contains 3.2.1 in the file name inside the zip file.

Only put one update*.bin file on your kindle USB drive at a time. If you have the correct jailbreak key installed, when you put an update file signed with the jailbreak key for your kindle version on your USB drive, the "update your kindle" menu item should be enabled.

thank you all for your help and your nice words.

my son is really sad, because it was his birthday present. Last week somebody has stolen his pencil and some other stuff out of his pencil case, it is a shame and nobody cares at school!

And I was a little bit sad also this morning, nothing works and a little baby bird flew into my living room and died, before I could bring him out to the garden, he collapsed to our windows and his neck was broken.


O.K., back to work:

Yes - to your questions, I did it again I think wright now.

Now I copied again the launchpad and after separating the kindle from the Pc, i could update it, it was no longer grey.
Probadly I had more than one update a time on the kindle and pushed the wrong button, to restart instead of updates, i do not know anymore.

After the update of the launchpad, the update button is again grey, is this o.k.- because there is no update at the moment?

And I can copy like you told me - the unzipped custormerfolder on top of the root on the kindle, do I separte the kindle than first by eject to update it again?

I think I did it. Did it just now boldly executed, the kindle rebooted, update was back just did not go gray. After the beam was of restarting at the end, I simply shift, shift, I was pushed down and Success! Then again with the same shift, shift, empty.

Good that it worked. It should be installed now. However, what you seem to be using is still the stock Amazon reader. Kindlepdfviewer has no action on the AA key that I know of :-)

Press Shift-P-D to actually start kindlepdfviewer :-)

and i press Shift-P-D nothing happens with the pdfreader, there is a search who starts?
In the line down? Like the normally search during reading and so.

I watched meanwhile also a video at youtube made of a meber from here, but he shows some shortkeys, they do not work at my kindle, nothing happens?

I think, i go to bed today and look up here tomorrow..

You don't need to open a pdf on the reader before you start kindlepdfviewer. Just press HOME button and go to the book shelve page. Then press Shift-P-D to start kindlepdfviewer.

I tried to do it the way with Home. P-D, but the Viewer does not open - anyway.
