I would rather get hit by a book than an ereader, an ereader will break over your head.

A thrown ereader will generate more kinetic energy before it hits you, a regular book will open up and decrease the kinetic force applied to you.

You can thumb through a book, alot faster than an ereader.

You can't impress your visitors with all the books you have. I miss that 'Wow, have you read all those books?'

Now, seriously, the only thing I took notice of when I went into someone else's house was their books. I found out about Harry Potter and Terry Pratchett that way. If everybody gets an ereader and gets rid of most of their paper books, how am going to find about books that fall out of my main area of interest? Somehow, fiddling with another person's ereader feels more like a breach of their privacy, I don't know why.

It's an interesting question and is currently still under debate by some people. If you take the view that copyright is a fundamental human right, then you must regress copyright back into perpetuity.

I could make out a bit of text in one of those images...

Yes. If they didn't they would come apart into HTML easily. I've never found any way to remove the DRM from the original Rocket either.

Actually that's the reason I moved to a reader - I have so many books that storage is a serious problem. Problem hereby defined as trying to read mostly paperbacks for reasons of "shelveability" and still sitting on 15 large storage boxes of books, despite having thousands of books in my apartment and yet more at the family home.

Biggest downsides for me is: no liner notes / jackets to quickly scan, but that's easily suffered what with all the upsides eBooks offer (for me).

The older Sonys were made from metal; I'm sure you could fashion some sort of shiv out of the aluminum.

And you could use the free 3G on the Kindle to coordinate a larger breakout.
