Cannot download news as no internet connection is active

Anyone know why I keep getting this error? I am trying to fetch the St. Louis Post Dispatch. I've checked and the newspaper is updated to today's paper and yet it takes over 20 minutes everyday to fetch it. By the definition of the error its not the newspaper that I'm trying to fetch that has a problem -- the problem is Calibre cannot connect to the internet. And yet if I hit F1 it immediately opens my browser and goes to the calibre website. Also if there is an update I click on the update and it immediately goes to the calibre download page and I can download the update immediately. My question is if Calibre can connect to the internet to do all that why can't it connect to the internet to fetch my news? Thanks, Deb Alcorn St. Louis MO |

Then windows for some reason is telling calibre that you have no active internet connection, calibre uses a standard windows system call to check if the internet connection is active. I'm afraid I have no clue why windows would be doing this in your case.

Is it possible your network card is going sleep (power save)? When using the keyboard, things wake up. When timed tasks (scheduled get news) run ???

hmmm I'm not sure. It seems strange. I have the auto download set for 5am. I wonder if I would take it off auto download and just fetch it if that would make a difference. I will try that tomorrow and see if it will connect and download it faster. Thanks for your help so far. At least someone is answering .... I don't feel like I'm all alone out here Deb Alcorn St. Louis, MO |

The number of 'views' is the folk that don't. A low count may mean you subject line did not catch any eyes. In your case, you had a good subject line , just not many folk that had an idea.

That is the exact error message. Thing is I don't always get that error message. Most of the time it just sits there and says Job 1 and spins around for 15 or 20 minutes until it finally downloads it. I brought up my status and I do have a connection with 5 bars. I can bring up my browser and see whatever I want but it is just a slow poke at fetching the news. It took 20 minutes again today. thanks everyone. If anyone has an idea let me know! hrmm I don't know what a White-list is lol I'm sorry I am not very computer savvy. I was thinking to try to connect the kobo to my desktop -- the internet cable is plugged into that instead of to my laptop whose connection is wireless. Figureing the connection would be for sure. But now I have another issue thats probably not applicable to this section -- when I plug my kobo into my desktop my wireless mouse and keyboard stop working. /sigh Deb Alcorn St. Louis, Mo |

A block list is the list of programs to, block. calibre.exe may have gotten added to the block list by an "Program update" or a stray click by a user of your computer. Note: That some security suites log the fingerprint of the program at time of 'Allow' and block any newer versions that no longer match that. You need to do a NEW allow (or remove the block). There may be more than 1 white list: Firewall, Web, Mail...

What I've tried the last couple days -- and it seems to not take nearly as long is to not set it up as an automatic download. I just go to fetch news, find my St. Louis Post Dispatch. Press the "Download Now" button and save and it does it right away with no problem. So I guess I solved it! Thanks for your help everyone! Deb Alcorn St. Louis MO |
