The custom declined in the UK in the last quarter of the 20th century, with a move to the nearest Sunday. While 'Remembrance Sunday' is still the major public event, the two minute silence on the 11th has made a come-back in recent years.

Artificial poppies are sold all over the UK to raise money for the Royal British Legion and Haig Fund charities, that provide support to current and former members of the armed forces.

In my cup: sugar free lemonade.
Here in Canada, poppies are sold everywhere to support the Royal Canadian Legion. The Legion is the social center of many small towns across Canada, in addition to its charitable works on behalf of veterans.

Fresh squeezed OJ this morning, and a bit of Peet's Holiday Blend coffee in a bit.

An armistice is an agreement to cease hostility without one side winning and one side losing. WWI and the Korean War ended in what was essentailly a stalemeate. It was better to end not declaring a winner because the cost of dragging out the fighting would have been too great in terms of the number of lives lost and the amount of money spent.

In the United States and across Europe, there is VE day, Victory in Europe. In the US there is a VP, Victory in the Pacific. They are not Federal Holiday because Veterans Day was established to honor all our Veterans regardless of what war they fought in. Veterans Day was established by President Wilson in 1919. As such, it predates the VE and VP days.

Remembrance Day is for all wars, not just 1st Word War.

The UK does still take note of VE day (8th May) and VJ day (15th August).

Plenty of people died who were not Russian.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties

US: 418,500 dead
UK: 450,900 dead
France: 567,600 dead

The USSR lost a lot of people, 23,400,000, but it is not clear how many died due to the war and how many died due to Stalin.

And lets not forget the 6 million Jews who were killed by Hitler and his minions.

I could be wrong. I am hopeless in history.
I think 6 million Jews died in the Holocaust, which is equal to the entire Jewish population of Israel today.

The first thing you should do is chuck the tea bags. You get a lower quality tea in the tea bag. Loose leaf is actually less expensive and better tasting. You get a nice tea infuser, either a basket or a french press so that your tea has all the room it needs to open up and release all the oils that give tea its health benefits and flavor. You pick up some good quailty loose leaf and off you go.

Teavana has some nice Earl Greys. Tea Gschwendner has some great Earl Greys. I am sure Gong Fu has a good Earl Grey or two.

I am here to help.

It took him a few months to hang them, and my coming over. I rarely visited his apartment, burnt orange color chairs with cigarette burns in them, ugly wall hangings, and the bathroom was scary. (shivers)

The next time I went over, about two months later, he had 10-15 framed Ben Harper, Beastie Boy, and Grateful Dead posters framed and hung. He collects rock concert posters but had never hung them. By the time he moved into the house, he had his walls double lined with posters. It was like visiting a museum.

Water, Honey Nut Cheerios with Skim Milk, and toast with raspberry jam.

I was told that berries where fine and that they would help with making contractions easier when the time came. Raspberry is suppose to be really good. And by told I mean I read it online and the Doctors list of things not to eat made no mention of avoiding berries.
Berries ARE fine, but berries tea induces contractions. Good at the end, not at the beginning. This was what both my midwives told me at the time, and indeed, every time I had some berries tea, I would feel it, so I decided to stop drinking it (my favorite was a black currant herbal tea) because my pregnancies were risky ones. Never got to use it properly for the end "training", because both kids came early.

Charities: I give to the Children's Cancer Research Fund, and to many AIDS charity, and also used to be an active militant of ACT UP Paris. I am not anymore because I am not in Paris, but my convictions are still strong.

Ahhh ok. I am drinking Wild Berries and Thyme Rooibos right now which, interestingly enough, only has raspberry in it. The rest is pineapple, mango, apple, and red peppercorn. I have heard that raspberry is suppose to help with labor.

Right now, I am on pot one of Rooibos Capetown.
