Argh, there's a stupid national strike again, so no trains today! I'm working at home right now, but I really wasn't prepared for that so I have very little to do right now.

Exactly so. A poppy for Remembrance Day. A two minute silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, marking the time when the cease-fire came into effect at the end of the First World War.
The custom declined in the UK in the last quarter of the 20th century, with a move to the nearest Sunday. While 'Remembrance Sunday' is still the major public event, the two minute silence on the 11th has made a come-back in recent years. Artificial poppies are sold all over the UK to raise money for the Royal British Legion and Haig Fund charities, that provide support to current and former members of the armed forces. In my cup: sugar free lemonade. Last edited by pdurrant; 11-10-2011 at 05:54 AM. |

It's a worthy one!
Getting ready to sit back and watch a movie with a glass of tequila in my hand... Gonna be "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" and I figured tequila would go well! Stitchawl |

One of the few I support too. I have pinched pdurrants idea of the poppy in my logo (never let a good idea go to waste), as I'm working from home most of this week and have no opportunity to display mine.

My Husband loves The Good The Bad and the Ugly. His Bachelor apartment was decorated with wall hangings used by many college students. The ones that look like African prints but aren't and every one knows it. I bought several nice The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly posters and framed them for him. It took him a few months to hang them, and my coming over. I rarely visited his apartment, burnt orange color chairs with cigarette burns in them, ugly wall hangings, and the bathroom was scary. (shivers)
The next time I went over, about two months later, he had 10-15 framed Ben Harper, Beastie Boy, and Grateful Dead posters framed and hung. He collects rock concert posters but had never hung them. By the time he moved into the house, he had his walls double lined with posters. It was like visiting a museum. Water, Honey Nut Cheerios with Skim Milk, and toast with raspberry jam. I was told that berries where fine and that they would help with making contractions easier when the time came. Raspberry is suppose to be really good. And by told I mean I read it online and the Doctors list of things not to eat made no mention of avoiding berries. |
