Unlike many other ereaders Sony has always delivered a relatively mature product that does as advertised. They did release a firmware update for the epub/pdf protected page problem that corrected a problem. Since their product is mature there is no reason to update what works.

PRS+ is great in that it expands the feature set and the fact that Sony has allowed room for tweaking is also a plus. It definitely extends the life of the entire Sony line.

I have bought more books from Amazon since I got my Sony ereaders then I have from the Sony store. As long as the DRM is easily removed I'll continue to shop where I want for my books.

I have no first hand knowledge but I heard that now the T-1 syncs between the device and all of their desktop/phone apps.

Sony also has unlimited cloud storage for items bought from the Sony store. I can download to my 950 any purchased book at any time via wireless.

I love my dropbox. I have reached their max free account size of 10.25 gigs of space. More than once I accidentally converted over top of a book I had edited and made changes to only to find those changes gone. A simple trip to my dropbox web area and I am able the restore the last version and all the work I lost due to my own error is restored.

I won't be buying a Kindle any time soon but I agree with you converting my ePubs to Mobi is trivial.

Your quote followed HarryT's post which was referring to my post and read as a straight follow-on to that... please excuse me from reading posts linearly as displayed on the thread but Post 1, quoted and replied to in Post 2 which then quotes 2 and replies, seemed pretty straight forward... When you read my post it should have been obvious I wasn't referring to you. You didn't even mention the things that I addressed. You could have looked at that and said, oh, she's not referring to me.

Fine... I'm sure that was your intent but I've re-read it again and as it follows (and quotes) a post relating to mine, it still reads as though referring to both HarryT and my posts... but does that mean that I'm not allowed to make a critical comment unless it specifically relates to a post of mine???

Anyway, I'm sorry if I inadvertently offended you by posting anything, I'll just ignore you in future so that I won't risk upsetting you...

Your post wasn't offensive and I don't get upset from posts in this forum, but I do speak up. I don't even own a Kindle YET, but it is interesting how it's become acceptable in the ePub crowd to belittle Kindle owners as a whole. End. Sorry to interrupt the flow of the thread.

As SCION has discovered, the 950 is included with that as well. Where you were reading, highlights, and bookmarks sync, even with your own side-loaded books.

So the 950, the desktop app, the android app, and the T-1 will sync that information. It doesn't include hand-annotations (Sony doesn't support text notes, oddly), but I think that's more of a limitation due to the fact that every device has a different display shape/size out of the set that can sync.

I'm not sure I follow you. You most certainly can use the on-screen keyboard to make notes on the Sony. This has been possible since the days of the PRS-600.

I just wasn't able to find it on my 950. It's pretty buried compared to the Nook. I see where it is now. Not sure if the text notes sync or not (they should).

I hate seeing people bring this up. You do know Amazon's cloud storage has abso-freaking-lutely nothing to do with their e-book business right? Everything you can do on the Kindle through Amazon's cloud storage can be done on any e-reader with a browser with any number of other similar services all of which offer free storage on sign-up (some more than Amazon).

Edit:
Assuming the e-reader has a browser and can download files.

No everything, only download files.

The Kindle has a browser and can download files. However, this new feature from Amazon allows you to synchronize and backup your library (last page read, annotations) simply pressing "Syncr and check for content" on the Menu.

It's easier (extremely easier) than using a browser to download files, and with a browser you can't synchronize your library (last page read and annotation), only download files.

While the Sony won't synchronize the books themselves, it will synchronize your page, bookmarks/etc. Including downloaded ones.

The Sony Reader certainly can make a splash - I remember this from the early days of owning a PRS-500 when no-one else owned a ebook reader. "It's a Sony!" was heard with a note of jealousy from one fellow traveller at least..
Purchasing a Sony Reader now would be a matter of financial decision though. The old one is perfectly fine for what I need right now though.

Sony really does make beautiful Readers. I've had a few "wow, it is so sleek" remarks about my 505 and 350.

I had been considering getting a Kindle (perhaps for Christmas) as a back up reader, as well as the PRS-T1. Now that you've reminded me about the T1 being Android (I think that I had read somewhere that it was confirmed), I realize that I could probably just get a Kindle app for it sometime down the line.

There are several features that have me choosing the T1 over the Kindle: the fact that there are quite a few books that I cannot get in .mobi that I can get in .epub (mostly Canadian lit and foreign language novels); also, I already have quite the .epub library and don't see a need to convert it. I only have a handful of Kindle books, and I can (and do) read them on my iPad. I make extensive use of the 12 dictionaries on my 350 and am happy to see that they will be included on the T1. I like the fact that I will be able to expand the memory with a card. Sony has had getter PDF functionality in the past, and I expect that it will remain the same with this new generation as well. I use PDF reflow quite often, and I like to be able to carry my journal articles with me when I am on the go, even though I do use tablets to read PDFs as well. While I am sad to see the metal bezel go this generation, I do believe that Sony had to cut costs where it could just to stay in the game. I will miss the ability to read .lrf files; I won't be getting rid of my 350, however, so I will be reading .lrf files on that device.

Just convert them with Calibre: LRF files generally convert flawlessly to ePub.

I'm afraid I don't know about that. It may be worth asking for advice on the Calibre forum.
