The problem being, the $79 Kindle is not touch screen. I'm sold on touch screen now that I have the 350. Plus the $79 has ads. I haven't pre-ordered. I'm waiting to see how you all like your T1s before I think about it. After all I've only had my 350 since January.

I'm skeptical about the K-Touch's total lack of physical buttons. I use a 650 and I mainly use the buttons to turn pages. We'll see...But I think touch-screen + buttons is better.

If the T1 is Android (unconfirmed) then it's a slam dunk that the T1 is a nicer piece of hardware than the K-Touch.

But Kindle has a free online library of 5GB. You can send personal documents to your Kindle email and see them archived in "Archived Item", so you can download them when you want directly from your device. Besides, the Kindle 4 (and K3 with a firmware update) automatically synchronize last page read and annotations, so you can delete a book, then redownload it and have the annotations you had made.

And for Amazon content the cloud storage is unlimited.

Well, the T1 has a matte plastic back, but the front is silly shinny plastic. I'm curios, where did you find out that the Kindle has a metallic back?

P.D. I confirmed what you say herehttp://www.bgr.com/2011/09/28/amazon...ouch-hands-on/.

Thanks!

A cloud server means nothing to me, plus as you say it is just for Amazon content. I can have anything from anywhere on a SD card that is compatible with my device. Those things you mention may be nice, but it still doesn't address the fact that the new Kindles do not have a card slot and that is what is important to me. YMMV.

It's not for Amazon Content, it's for Personal Documents

I'm talking about the New Personal Archiving. 5GB of free cloud storage for personal documents, and annotations and last page read backup and synchronization for free with book no purchased from Amazon (but DRM free) or personal documents. So, you have the same wireslessly service with personal documents as you receive with books purchased for Amazon: download everywhere, read everywhere; don't worry about losing any of your books or personal documents as those are all stored centrally on Amazon.

The cloud storage for Amazon content, on the other hand, is unlimited.

If you have metadata management set to automatic, you don't need to send to device - just connect it.

No, it isn't; the 5GB is for your own content. It's unlimited storage for stuff you've bought from Amazon.

I honestly think that SD card slots are overrated. I currently have 636 books on my Kindle, many of which are large omnibus editions. I have 2250MB free out of the total 3.25GB of storage space. For me, being able to carry around 2000+ books is entirely adequate.

Like I want my own data stored on someone else's equipment out of my control... as has been pointed out many times, the idea of personal computing is embodied in that one word "personal," an escape from the high priests of the main frame and mini to control your own computing and data... now the idea is "cloud" and "online processing" to once more hand control back to other people... no thanks, my data, my computer/tablet/ereader/smartphone...

Of course you shouldn't ONLY have your data on someone else's cloud storage - you need to make your own backups, too. It's simply a convenient method of accessing it from anywhere. That's why services like Dropbox (which runs on Amazon's cloud) are so popular.

Yep, pretty basic. Buy a book and back it up.

It's ok if you prefer a a device with an SD card slot. But don't act like folks who buy Kindles are simple minded and don't really know what's best for them. Simply assuming that no one backs up their books if they own a Kindle. Also, many make a big deal about converting their "entire" library to .mobi if they were to buy a Kindle. Do a batch convert and walk away from the computer. Done. It's not a difficult transition for those who are truly interested and not just looking for reasons to put down the Kindle.

Thanks for condescending responses... never said anything about "ONLY" using cloud storage... of course I backup my stuff (and backup the backups) but where do I store the odd terabyte in the cloud and do it for free... whereas in my control, no charge except for hard disks (trivial now). And with pocket bus-powered USB drives, I can take a terabyte or so around in a shirt pocket or bag for a couple of hundred grams weight... oh yes, it also works when there's no Wi-Fi or 3G access available and it's faster too...

And where did I put the Kindle down... didn't even mention the damn things... was talking about other people handling my storage and that doesn't matter a damn whether Amazon or Old King Cole... neither did I say I only prefer a device with an SD card slot or assume Kindle owners don't backup... seems Kindle owners are now getting even more defensive about their choices than Apple users

I wasn't referring to you, that's why I didn't quote you. Many folks want an SD card slot and many make it seem painful to convert from one format to another if you own more than a handful of books. I could have posted my response in the Kobo or Nook sub-forums. It's a generic statement that applies to many in those forums as well. So, I don't know why you have a chip on your shoulder.

Everyone here has different standards. What might be important for one, might not be important for others. I have things that I look for in products that I own. I have found in the past that certain items have become fairly important to me. The important thing that one could do, especially on forums as large as this, is remember that others may have different ideas and opinions.
