Actually, smoking was one of Hunter's more benign habits. Since I know you dislike my avatar, that gives me another good reason to keep it.

My avatar is a self taken picture of "our nearest neighbour". The Andromeda Galaxy some 2,2 million light years away. The Andomeda Galaxy is the most distant astronomical object that can be observed "naked eye".

(It's taken with an ordinary digital camera with a 200mm telephoto lens, piggybacked on an equatorial mount to compensate for Earths rotation. A 4 minutes exposure).

I grew up in the 1950s in the era when TV was first making its inroads to the American home. Probably only 1% of families owned one. I was walking home from school with a friend who asked me if I would like to stop at his house to see their new television set. Having never seen one, I readily agreed.

The program playing on the set at the time was "Howdy Doody." His face (if "face" is the proper term here) was the first TV image I ever saw.

Like you, I grew up in the 50's and we got our first TV in 52. My dad bought it from Sears who sent out technicians to hook it up. First image I saw was Kate Smith although Howdy Doody was the next. Needless to say, I quickly fell in love with Princess SummerFallWinterSpring. And tried to model my life after Clarabell.
