My avatar is borrowed from an online comic I like to follow (artist gives permission at the site), and the character's name is Aeris.

This particular frame was chosen 'cause the look on her face is pretty much how I feel a lot of the time...

Mine is a shot of Bogey from the movie The African Queen. I use it because I'm as fond of Gin as I am of eBooks. Actually, I use it because one of favorite movie lines was in this film. When Bogey kicks the boiler on the African Queen to get it to work, Katharine Hepburn asks him why he doesn't just take it apart and remove the screwdriver that is causing the problem. Bogey acknowledges that he could but, he says, I kinda like kicking it.

My current avatar is a drawing by Storm P. - I came across it online after recently seeing an exhibition of some of his work, and thought it fitted very nicely for a site about reading.

Living in the north-woods of Wisconsin the outdoors and wildlife, including hunting, is very big here. I receive emails with photos of wild animals all the time, and my current avatar was one I received a few months ago. I just think it is very amusing, and I immediately had the idea for a nice caption to go with it.

Garry Trudeau patterned Duke from Thompson's persona and the likeness was intentional. The name "Duke" was taken from Thompson's alternate identity, Raoul Duke.

I didn't realize that, but when Jon pointed out the likeness it was unmistakable. I had no doubt about which Doonesbury character he was referring to.
